Description
I've wanted to do this for quite some time now, heh. Just goes to show that the more you draw, the more you DO improveEDIT: I was probably a bit unclear on this. When I say 'Evolution of the Swift-hound', I'm not referring to Swift herself but to my style of drawing sighthounds in general. As you can see, Swift was only created in 2002, whereas I'd first started drawing sighthounds back in '96. Before that, my "fursona", or rather the animal I used to represent myself in my drawings was my own Italian Greyhound, Bella. Most of my sighthound drawings before then were of her and her littermates (whom I 'adopted' as chars and gave names to
And as you can see, I recycle poses quite a bit xD

Don't ever say anything like that. You can be as good as you want to be, you just have to keep pushing it.

i didnt know, yoo were drawing for so long. i wish i could do this, but i have a picture of a horse i made when i was like 5..
and that was on a plane with my cousin who is 3 years older than me, and i then was drawing a globe and i coloured it blue and green and left the north pole and south pole white. i also left the east and west pole white (cuz i thought they existed) and then my cousin goes and tries to colour in the green for my west and east pole cuz she said thats not how it is and even tho i made a mistake i hated when ppl drew on my pictures so i got really mad @ her, lol.

Very true! Great piece! You're talent has progressed phenomenally! I haven't drawn anything new in a while, but am starting to. At first I was having trouble, but then I remembered like riding a bicycle. The ironic thing is - I kept thinking "Man, imagine what I could do now if I hadn't slacked off." I think I'll print this out and pin it to my bulletin board next to my desk - to help remind me to keep it up and don't let my artist block turn into a mountain anymore!
π: 0 β©: 1
swift-whippet In reply to DBZchick [2005-05-26 09:49:07 +0000 UTC]
Aw, thanks! It's good to know my work is being used for some good purpose
I know what you mean about art block being a mountain.. I've hit dry spells many times, days when nothing I drew looked right or good, and then I'd just hang up my pen and stop out of despair and frustration. But I find that when I did get back into it again I started being happy with myself again So no worries, I think every artist has bad art days and then gets really demoralised. The important thing is you're trying again
And it's true that the more you draw the better you get, no matter where you start. I look back on drawings that I did just last year and can already observe a subtle but present improvement.
I think the key to doing well as an artist is never giving up and loving what you do

Very true! That's the fun and great thing about art - you can only improve; even if it's only a little bit per year, it's well worth it!

Can't believe I'm only stumbling across your art now, its gorgeous! You can tell how much care and attention has gone into the making of this character... at swift and insect clueless!
π: 0 β©: 1
swift-whippet In reply to Zolaria [2005-05-17 02:55:42 +0000 UTC]
Haha.. ironically, not much care and attention went into making Swift. She was just a red-and-white vaguely Irish-marked whippet. I wanted a fursona and I knew I wanted a whippet.. other than that her markings and colours were pretty much chosen at random. But I do like them, heh
And she was only created in 2002. Before that the dog I drew most often was my own real life Italian Greyhound, Bella, and that's her you see clueless with the insect xD

Could have something to do with the fact that 2001 was the year I first stumbled upon Side 7 and started hero-worshipping certain people and aspiring to draw as well as them xD
I'm actually really unspeakably happy with my style now; I think it's more unique than say, 2002-3. Back then my dogs looked more like your generic Disneyesque kind of dog, but now I think I've grown away from that, happily

Wow, just goes to show that in a short space of time you DO improve a whole lot (I consider that time short ) After 2000 you can see your art really boosting; it looks like you matured with your art greatly after this point. It's funny when you first finished a picture all those years ago and thought it was the bomb, isn't it? Loving the picture of Swift right at the bottom
