(I feel like the digital and traditional parts of this are equally important, but whatever.)my friends and I are making characters to represent our western zodiac signs and how they relate to us personally. this is probably going to turn into a much bigger project and I am excited about it.
meet Switch.
she has actually been flitting around in my head for quite some time now, but I feel like I've finally pinned down her design and the time is right to show her off. this will probably be scrapped later on. ref sheet and race/species sheet to follow at some point.and if you don't already know what sign I am, I think it's pretty easy to figure out.

I love this concept, Swift. I adore how large and inquisitive Switch's eyes are, and those colors really pop. The gold of the wings and the pale green/teal and white in addition to the stark pink. Absolutely brilliantly creative.
And the fact that you incorporated Hermes' winged sandals into the Gemini is really, really, REALLY creative. I think this is just freaking fantastic! I love how you are branching out. Really, really cool.

So many people solely watch me to see doggies, so when my other characters get some love and attention it makes me happy. <3 Especially because the zodiac project is one of my main inspirations right now.

Yea, I totally understand that. Falling into a 'category' can get kinda urksome. Canine artists dont get nearly enough comments or favs on their non-canine art. I've been watching your gallery, and I love how you are branching out from the cutesy doggies to other things as well, and this characterization of these elements and zodiacs are just...so yum. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE looking at creative takes on the zodiac. Like, cant get enough. So this is just made of delicious win for me. And of course the fact that she speaks so much about you is just...really really inspirational.
I'm a taurus, the bull-headed, bold as brass traditional one.
And oh lord, I hadn't seen that virgo, wtf. That is just beautifully designed. The fruit speaks so loudly about purity and just...on so many levels like a ripe womb, untouched by ready. The purity of the character design, and the zodiac, is just so deeply rooted and meaningful, and the touch of nature really brings about that natural innocence and fertility with the youthful 'untouched' or 'untamed/unbroken' quality of a virgin, of the virgo itself. Beautiful

Aww -- that means so much to me Blooness. I'm trying to make this zodiac thing something different, I think this spawned from seeing too many pieces of gemini-inspired art that I couldn't connect with at all, and I don't think that many people have managed to truly grasp the nature of it. the gemini race of.... birdpeoplethings I'm making is as satisfying a representation as I can come up with and I can't wait till I sort all that out.

I'd be totally willing to take a shot at thinking up as many ideas as I can. I'm not so great about human drawing, so I dont know what I'll be able to do in that department, as far as putting my ideas into a full human form, but I'm totally up for coming up with some form of idea or another!!

I agree. This did have a few things that weren't so accurate- but that's to be expected with individuality and individual experiences that alter moods and behavior.
On the whole, however, this was pretty damned huge and I enjoyed ever word of it, as it was very vey consistent and accurate.

Gemini is ruled by Mercury, so the feet-wings and head-wings are based on the god Mercury/Hermes' winged sandals and hat.

Oh i see, it all makes sense now. My mother is a Gemini too, and i can totally relate her to what's said in that site. She's also bipolar, i read before it's somehow frequent in Gemini, as it almost reflects the sign itself (well too literally XD).
You did a really cool color choice, especially with the tones/hues ^_^

I spent years and years thinking I was somehow crazy and being freaked out by my own weirdness, before I started reading about Gemini and suddenly felt normal.
I just went with what felt right. That's why with this world we're building, we're leaving a lot of room for people to personalise their characters since people are so different.

Haha no, it's just a icon of one of my favorite deviations. I am a Scorpio, and very much a Scorpio at that. A scorpion is a little hard to work with, but I can always take small aspects of it and morph it into something that represents me a little more, like how you made your character split limbed.

So, is this a series, or every person can make their own character? Mine will definitely be anamorphic, and have some sort of stinger like a scorpion to represent the sign. I will probably incorporate the Scorpio colors and maybe the sign's flower or stone if appropriate. I will make it look a little like me, at least with the hair and eyes and such. I don't know, I guess I will just see once I start sketching it up.

I'd like to develop it into something that other people can play around with -- haven't decided exactly what yet. The way I envision it is, each 'race' would have certain design rules; for example my Gemini people mostly have wings (any kind) someplace, multiple limbs, and are able to 'split' themselves to varying degrees into two or more separate beings -- Switch can split herself down to the waist but she either can't or hasn't tried going further. Other than that though, people can go crazy and make them look like whatever they want -- I can see cusp-babies having a lot of fun with combining elements from two signs. I'm planning to come up with more example Gemini character designs so people can see what I mean.
So yeah, have as much fun with it as you like, and whether you want to keep what you come up with as your own character or contribute to our project is completely up to you. I think we'd be very happy to have your input, since you obviously know a lot about your sign and none of us are familiar with it.

Alright, I guess we can make that decision once I draw it up. It might be awhile for me, because I am so busy with college, but I am excited about this so I hope that will make me do it sooner. I know too much about my sign. I have researched it extensively since I was young, astrology fascinates me. Reading about my sign makes me feel more normal, because I am extremely a Scorpio. If I let my personality go, I would be a Scorpio, but I am always trying to improve myself and there are plenty negative things about Scorpios that one needs to fix!
