Thought it was about time to update Swift's ref sheet. Her essential design hasn't changed a bit, but I cringe looking at the outdated style and artwork of my previous ref so.. tadah! I didn't put a lot of notes on the design and markings themselves, because they are pretty simple, but I added some little footnotes of feral whippet faces and poses for the people not used to sighthounds, as well as the sighthound ears bit that a lot of people told me was helpful. The idea for the sketchy little poses and expressions was inspired by *silverbobcat 's ref sheet of her character, Kali.
I can't begin to describe what I feel for this character and design. She was created completely at random when I was just sixteen - random colours and markings, and even though I knew I wanted a sighthound self I'm not really sure how I arrived at whippets. But over the years I've come to realise more and more that she fits me like a glove, even though her design hasn't really changed at all. There hasn't ever been a time that she hasn't 'felt right'; I didn't have to make an effort to soul search or to make her 'like me', she simply is me, always has been and I think always will be. And although I will always squee and be heartwarmed over sighthounds in general, whippets have become, officially, the breed most dear to my heart and very like me in many ways. So.. yeah. Swift is very special to me. :3
EDIT: Swift's claws are now officially white. this is like... the biggest change to this character ever made. xDDD

I don't. though I'm thinking of updating this just because I feel like there's too much exposition. xD I'm eventually going to rework all of my refsheets and scrap or store the old ones, but that won't happen for a while and anyway essentially nothing has changed.

I have two whippets and five greyhounds of my own. I love them all dearly. The whippets are so funny when they hop on and off my couch forty million times XD good job on this. You really cought what a whippet looks like.

Yes, apparently they do D: A bunch of my friends and I were talking about what dogs we'd like to have and everyone was like Husky, Golden, Collie, terrier, blah blah blah... then I say I want a whippet, and one of my friends was like "EEWWWWW those are so gross!" =_= I got madder than I should have xDD
But then, like D. Caroline Coile (my favourite breed book author) says: "Those who fall into [the group of people who think the sighthound outline is bizarre] simply have bad taste, so their opinion shouldn't matter to those in the [group who love the sighthound curves], who obviously have good taste."

More sighthounds make teh Swift happy toooooo~ Whippets are mini-greyhounds. Only slightly stockier and more compact, and they come in both smooth and floofy. Swift just happens to be a smooth one :3

Wow! Awww... she's so cute! I love your character! I have been requesting that people post their Reference Sheets, because every time I go to do gift-art, I can't ever figure out how to draw their character. So far, I think you have done the best job on one- having the guide for her ears, different poses, anthro/dog forms, and even expressions! I have a folder on my computer for reference sheets, but because you uploaded this as a .png, I can't save it. Well, that's okay (it does suck, but I can just add this page to my Internet Favorites). Those little sketches of her running/playing/etc? Gosh...it would take me a week to turn out something like that. You make it look so easy!
Her anthro form is SO cute. Her hair? Adorable! (And parted on the exact opposite side that I part mine on, haha) She's really unique, but definitely in a good way! <3 I need to practice canines. ^_^;

Well, I have been drawing whippets/sighthounds for nearly ten years now (since I got my Italian Greyhound - my live model!), so I'm pretty well-versed in how they're structured. I can't take credit for all the practice I've had. It takes time.. but if you really try to improve and practice a lot it's perfectly possible to get where you want to go
Sorry about the PNG thing. I find the quality is better if I save it as such (not to mention people can't gank my pictures). If you want a copy of her ref I could send it to you or something.. maybe? o.O

That would be really great! You can email it to me if you want (my email is on my page). I think it would be super-useful. And handy to have. Most people (including myself) suck at drawing various expressions, especially. Poses can be difficult tooβand this is on our own characters! Itβs even worse when youβre trying to do a cute giftart for someone, and you end up doing their character wrong. I definitely wasnβt made to make reference sheets, but I know I should. ^_^;
I used to be a HUGE dog person, and I read up on dog breeds, care of dogs, how to teach dogs tricks, and everything! Not to mention tuning into Animal Planetβs βGood Dog Uβ βBreed All About Itβ, and βK9 to 5β. I loved those shows! I even made two canine charactersβAn American Eskimo Dog, and a Shetland Sheepdog. I also loved Italian Greyhounds, Whippets, and most other, smaller breeds that didnβt get large.

Oh yeah, I've been into dogs since we got our Bella, who sparked my interest in sighthounds. My mum used to say that if there was a dog exam at school I'd pass with flying colours

Eee, thanks Josef! A lot of people who drew Swift for me as gifts or trades mentioned they had trouble because they weren't used to whippet/sighthound anatomy and how to draw their ears, so I decided to include some notes to make life easier for them
