Description
Meet my new whippet character, Aspen - Asp for short - designed to star opposite ~ClarifiedAbstract 's Beezle in a future RP. o.oAsp is basically my gemini whippet - her personality and likes and dislikes seem to contradict each other. She loves friends and socialising but can't stand to be in social situations for too long. She's optimistic and bright but by turns a cynic. She's a flirt who's afraid of giving too much of herself to anyone - but at the same time she hankers the security of commitment. I'm thinking she's still rather young and hasn't quite settled into what she is and/or wants to be just yet, so she ends up with a little bit of everything. I still need to get a handle on her properly, which is proving hard since she's so all-over the place. Though I have the gemini complex to some degree myself, I nonetheless think that Asp is fundamentally made of different stuff than me. and it's just a matter of trying to find out what said stuff is. 9_6 anyhow. that will come, I'm sure.
And yes, her markings and such are symbolic. It was my first try at consciously symbolic markings/accessories, and I like to think I succeeded

Even though this is a super old picture of yours, I love it!
I love the colours so much <3
I'm trying to design a whippet character who looks an awful lot like Asp...Oops ...
Β Fawn is my favorite whippet colour. Do you know what the markings next to/below her eyes are called?

oh pfff don't even worry about it. fawn with markings like this is a relatively common (and pretty) colouring! thank you!
the dark markings on the face are called a mask. it kinda looks like it's going around her eyes because she's got a white blaze and muzzle. without that, she'd look more like this: dogcare.dailypuppy.com/DM-Resi⦠dog colour genes are really interesting, I did a lot of reading about them at one point and that really helped me understand natural markings better!

I thinks it's beautiful, I also think straight brindle and white with brindle is pretty too, but maybe I'm biased because my two whippets are those colours XP
I should read up about dog colours then I really like realistic looking characters. Even though not many of mine are realistic.....

This looks so much like my whippet that it is just scary!
I love it... you are so talented and you have really caught the personality of the whippet.
Can't wait to see what else to do.
You are number one in my book!

That's awesome, now I know what your whippet looks like xD fawn with a dark face and white is such a pretty colouring. Does your whippet have all of Asp's 'special' markings too? that would be really cool!

She doesn't have all the same markings but she does have some pretty unique traits. On one side of her face the whiskers are white and on the other they are black. Also she had black splodges just above her nose... so cute.
Keep up the great work!

good use of the bone structure, its really great. I like the coloration of her as well, you did a wonderful job on this peice as well as many others of your art. Keep doing good work I enjoy looking at them, I would commision you but alas I have only enough money to get by with what I do have. >< Have to come to a library to use the net.

She sounds like a very interesting character. For some reason I really love her design, I guess it's the simplicity of it.

Aw, I'm glad you like her. I love simple designs (must be the animator in me, haha xD) and I think all my characters do reflect that. It's nice to know that someone likes them because of it

why would you think that's really sad?! I love that song and I think it's great that you know it

Know, just sad because...I listen to WAY too much music. xD
What type of music do you like? (just curious :33)

Oh, I love pretty much anything xD I'd say the Spin Doctors are my favourite band, though :3 Train and Sister Hazel I've been listening a lot to lately, as well. upbeat without being overly saccharine, I'm drawn to that sort of thing. and interesting lyrics are by all means a bonus. Eve 6 would probably have been a favourite band if they hadn't broken up, though I still love them xD I'm also a sucker for broadway-type stuff, big band and jazz, and cheesy old music. yeah. I love oldschool. :3

oh, this is good that there is a natural hair color, and not neon pink with neon yellow heart-shaped spots and glow ring braclets and 4 wings and tail pericings.
I don't think I ever met a whippet though.

swift-whippet In reply to Kuwaizair [2006-11-26 02:44:10 +0000 UTC]
Please don't compare her to all the characters that you hate. Love her for what she is, not what she's not. She's not supposed to be an anti-neon-coloured dog, she is what she is and who she is. Aspen-Asp, the gemini whippet.
Whippets are the awesomest dogs and I hope to have one someday. :3

I'm just saying its getting boring seeing blue and pink canines that look nothing like what they are suposed to be. seeing more normal ones is a good break.

I'm glad you think so, thank you.
I guess I'm aware of your personal vendetta against such things, and honestly I don't know why it should bother you so that people draw what they like and think is cool. most of them eventually grow out of it anyway.

LOL, I've been through that phase, hun. It's commonly called 'being a teenager'. sucks. but I'd grown out of it by the time I was 18, so. yay. xD I still have that gemini thing going on, but I guess I've learnt to live with it and not let it rule me

Ooo oh ooooh!! I don't know why but she just makes me SMILE her markings work so well together- complimentary yet conflicting... such a lovely combination!! I really like the facial markings, very unusual and the overall colour scheme just looks so natural.
You have a knack of knowing exactly what will go without overdoing it, such as the pink-chain-and-yellow-rose-pendant. I have a feeling we'll be seeing quite a lot of this lovely little one!!

swift-whippet In reply to Zolaria [2006-11-25 16:11:54 +0000 UTC]
Heehee, I'm glad she did make you smile, Zola :3 I really liked designing her and I don't like over-the-top character designs anyway. Simple and elegant is how I like them :3
Her facial markings really aren't all that unusual in real life; she'd be referred to as a fawn with a black mask and white blaze, like on these adorable puppies: [link] :3 they're beautiful dogs.
thank you hunny. you know your comments are always appreciated!

I love the markings on her body, its as though they are refering to her Gemini complex The bio for her is cool too...some of it reflects me
Shes a pretty whippie too. I really like her pendant, lovely shades of pink... but i can't figure out what the rose is symbolises for.... my mind aint working no more
π: 0 β©: 1
swift-whippet In reply to Natuk [2006-11-25 16:08:37 +0000 UTC]
YES. thank you :3 I'm so glad you caught that, Natuk, it's as I meant it to be
Oh, that's alright, I didn't really expect anyone to catch it anyway The yellow rose is a symbol of platonic love and freedom, which is supposed to represent her unwillingness to tie herself down, and that she'll love dogs and leave them. The pink on her collar is to represent both her innocent and sensual sides (baby pink and hot pink), and that she'll flirt a lot and lead dogs on, but bolt if it's getting too serious.
