Description The E4 was one of the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway's frontline tank engines for all types of traffic on the system. These powerful radial tanks were first designed by R.J Billinton and built between 1897 and 1903, with 75 examples built at Brighton works. They were often referred to as "Piano Tanks" because of how their coal bunker was shaped like a grand piano. Four of the class were rebuilt to the E4x, with slightly larger boilers. All of the originals and rebuilds were taken on by the Southern Railway in 1923 and the same by British Railways. Withdrawals began in 1955, though most went between 1958 and 1964. One, number (32)473 Birch Grove is preserved and currently in working order at the Bluebell Railway in Sussex, where it holds the distinction as being the only preserved LBSCR locomotive not designed by William Stroudley.

This is an early birthday present for since I will be away from home this weekend! Enjoy, my friend!
