Description
Here are some engines built by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway, a Class 3, Class 23, and a 111 Class. Early in its existence, the LMS adopted a 'scrap and build' policy, opting to withdraw and cut up older locomotive types rather than pay for their continual upkeep in favor of building engines to more modern designs. The Class 3 4-4-0s (top) were all withdrawn by 1930 and the 111 class 0-4-4Ts (bottom) were withdrawn from regular service by 1921 (though two were kept as stationary boilers at Horwich works until the 1960s before finally being scrapped). The Class 23s (middle) were versatile enough that they continued service with still over 100 engines by Nationalization and the last being withdrawn in 1964 as one of the oldest classes of locomotive in service with BR, and one, number 752, is preserved and under restoration to working order.I used 's Class 4 chassis to make the Class 3 and a cab by him as well to make the class 23.
