Description This was my entry for Short Challenge #20 . Unfortunately it won't be competing in the challenge because, according to the opinion of the individual who runs the challenge, I didn't use the required stock in an obvious enough manner in order to qualify (though the rules do not mandate how much of or in what capacity required stock should be used, only that it is used and that the use follows the stock-provider's guidelines). This is a definite shame, as I was fully inspired by the required stock to create this piece - the top of the tower immediately brought to mind shoulder-guards and from there the idea for this piece sprang. I personally have appealed the decision not to allow this piece entry, as I find it not only disappointing and quite unfair, but in direct opposition to the purpose of these challenges - encouraging artists to use stock in new and interesting ways while improving in the medium of photomanipulation. I feel that I am being punished for both thinking outside of the box and incorporating stock in a nearly seamless way. However, my arguments have fallen on deaf ears. If you believe that this piece deserves to at least be allowed to compete in the Challenge, I ask you to contact the person who runs this challenge before February 13, 2016, when the challenge ends. I would be most grateful, not just for myself, but for the integrity of the Challenges themselves, as denying entries because one disagrees with how the required stock was utilized is the opposite of encouraging artists to use stock in new and interesting ways while improving in the medium of photomanipulation.

This was somewhat of an experiment for me. Unlike with most of my pieces, I didn't have a set concept when starting out on this piece - instead I let it grow and evolve organically as I worked.  The result, in my opinion, is a bit different from my usual work while also maintaining my typical aesthetic. I'm fairly happy with that.

Regardless, I'm proud of this piece. Thank you for inspiring it with your beautiful stock and for allowing me to use your stock in it! Thank you also for the compliment!
