Although Pear and Chiffon had full intentions of raising Cookie together, life caught up with the both of them. Pear Butter was present for a few years of Cookie's infancy, but beyond that, life caught up to the Apple Family (life being Big Mac and Applejack within two years of each other). Chiffon would often bring Cookie over to play with the siblings, but they never knew each other as related, as Chiffon and Pear swore each other to secrecy. It broke Pear's heart, and Pear swears she was going to tell Bright Mac and the rest of the family. But then they both fell ill while Pear was pregnant with Applebloom. Applebloom was born without complications, but both parents died shortly after. Both Chiffon and Cookie attended the funeral with heavy hearts, Cookie knowing Pear Butter as "Aunt Buttercup".

The death affected both Cookie and Chiffon greatly. Chiffon fell into a depression and Cookie felt the effects of it. Chiffon somehow ended up tumbling into a relationship and eloping with Mr. Cake. Cookie was a young adult by the time this happened. She has reservations about Mr. Cake, never really calling him dad, refusing all of his bonding attempts.

It's not that she disliked her step-father, she just didn't feel like she had to have a significant connection to him. She was raised only by Chiffon, but she knew that Chiffon was hiding secrets about her other parent. Cookie Butter didn't find out about Chiffon and Pear's affair until the events of The Perfect Pear, along with the other Apple Siblings.

The Apple Siblings were thrilled by this revelation, and they always knew they had a certain special kinship with Cookie Butter. Cookie, however, was angry. She was angry that Chiffon kept this from her, and she was angry that Pear Butter wouldn't take the risk of the Apple family shunning her again so that she would be a real parent to her. Chiffon tried to stress the chaos that was the whole affair, but Chiffon refused to listen.

Cookie didn't want to leave Ponyville, but she couldn't keep working and living with her mother. She ends up working at a cafe in Ponyville, and moves in with her girlfriend, Cheerilee. Pound and Pumpkin visit Cookie frequently, and Cookie is on very good terms with the Apple siblings still. She doesn't have any real contact with her mother until Chiffon begs her to take care of Sugarcube Corner, as the Cakes are retiring. She apologizes (again) to Cookie, and Cookie agrees to take over the business. "Not for you. I'm doing this for Pound and Pumpkin."

Currently the owner of Sugarcube Corner and married to Cheerilee (they grew up together and had always been close, it was a matter of time and Cookie finally admitting her feelings). Cookie puts great value in family, and she adores all of her half-siblings. Much like Applejack, she puts great value in honesty (being why she took the secrecy of her parents so harshly; Applejack was one of the few ponies who didn't think she overreacted by moving out (though, AJ encouraged her to forgive Chiffon sooner)). She's a little jaded and impulsive, but a lot of her pushing away comes from her not knowing how to express herself properly.

Aside from her family and Cheerilee, Cookie isn't fond of many others. She tends to close herself off a lot. Cheerilee notices when she goes through a rough patch and helps her by having her teach the schoolfoals baking skills. Cookie adores kids and baking is a stress reliever for her, so she loves when Cheerilee sets these sessions up for her. Cookie and Cheerilee have three children of their own.
