Description
I put this tile together to illustrate the continuing evolution of the style within Project Cryptid. The original versions are to the left, the Current versions to the right; the original versions are from around 2004 or '05, I think... my sense of time isn't the greatest. When I first started it was a lazy thing to do and the process showed- dragging mouse, two-three colors, sloppy. All they were for was my own visual aid. Over the years both the quality and style have improved greatly. These are examples of the most apparent.Ahool
The description said a "monkey with bat wings" so that was exactly what I made. It looks like a teddy bear
Altamaha-ha
I did a terrible job of interpreting the reports and ended up with a demon-dolphin. The update leaves something to be desired and is missing the fluked tail but more closely resembles the reported animal.
Bunyip
Oh no, it's a beaver
Loveland Frogman
I used the same design for the Cavney Carcass so it's out of order, sue me. Redone to actually look like a frogman.
Con-Rit
How do you design an enormous centipede? not like the pipe cleaner on the left. This was one of my more self-anticipated redraws and now i wouldn't change a thing.
Dohbor-Chu
Mommy, get the evil gerbil away from me
Mamlambo
This is a result of the creature having two or three different reported apperances. I somehow ended up leaning towards the "horse" look and hated it for a long time until I changed it to the more common style of a "serpentine aquatic beast".
Mokele-mbembe
This was the second cryptid I ever made after Bigfoot and it stayed as it was until fairly recently. All that really changed was the pose but I managed to give it more mass than it used to have without making it look like a saurian curly-cue.
Mongolian Death Worm
This was a case of pure artistic license and I ended up with a four-legged candy cane with a happy face
Tatzel Wurm
You never saw this...
Trunko
I had always felt that my original Trunko was horribly lazy so, as the first redraw, I gave it a new look, a bit more color (the original has a whopping two!), and the flukes and flippers from the reports.
Yeti
It began as a stuffed animal and ended up a quarterback. Originally the redraw had pink eyes but that looked awful so I settled on a darker color that would still show up and go well with the, let's face it, bland color scheme.

The yeti is only white in fiction. The real deal is supposed to be brown, black or blue-gray. I suggest a recolor in blue-gray with a medium-gray flesh for the the more nit-picky cryptozoologists like myself.

I'll take cryptist as a real word . A lot of people seem to like Trunko the best, maybe because it's fuzzy

Mongolian Death Worm,Mokele-Mbembe (and other living dinosaurs),Tatzel Wurm and Trunko are really good.
Do you have any more info on Tatzel Wurm?I only read about it once in a book on cryptids-can't remember the books name-and it was brief. All the paranormal, cryptozoology and likewise books I've read and only one mentioned the Tatzel Wurm!!!Doesn't anybody love the Tatzel Wurm!?!
Love the psprites, must have been time consuming and tedious but it definitely paid off :3

There's no shortage of Tatzelwurm info online but most of it tells the same stories and information: in the 1700's farmers in several European countries reported a creature attacking their livestock. I've no idea what could explain the feline aspects.
A few of them were a bit time-intensive but from the results and feedback it was time well spent.
