Description
A BIG THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO HAS VISITED, BROUGHT IDEAS, FAVORITED AND DOWNLOADED AS WELL AS THOSE TO COME! PROJECT CRYPTID CONTINUES TO GROWArtist's Note: I get a lot of questions about adding the Mongolian Death Worm - it is already a part of the collection and has been for a long time now, right between the words in the title. I don't know if it's because people don't see, aren't looking, or just like to mess with me, so I'm putting up this note to assure any and all that the death worm is there.

The current layout for Project Cryptid
Not everything here may be real, I won't argue the point of demon bats and such, but if it's mentioned in myth and lore or anecdotes and reports I'll probably draw it.

For every one of them there are ten I have yet to get to. The main site I got my information and details from updated and started their humongous list afresh so I lost a lot of valuable insight.

That idea has been passed around lately in regards to places with any kind of local legend that people suddenly report to have seen. The Michigan Dogman would be a great example of a modern cryptid springing up from an originally fictional song played on the local radio station.

Glad to still be getting folks excited with this collection.
I've been pushing myself for years to pick it up again but I'm still learning the fine art of balancing old and current projects with life.

If so, wouldn't a Pokemon-ish game with cryptids be awesome?

I've gotten a few comments about pokemon and cryptids. I've actually been outlining a project just for that complete with evolution lines and mega-forms. I'd certainly play that game.

This represents only a small collection of the world's total reported creatures, beasties, and local living oddities and I've been getting an increase in questions about where or why a given example hasn't been listed. The only reason is procrastination with rough waters. Interest has picked up so much that I really should get back into just doing it and not worrying about the perfect placement of each pixel.

Keep seeking the fantastic!
A lot of critters belong on here but are missing simply because I've been a big mope for a while now. A bunch of new additions have be in indefinite development, sitting in the folder, but just aren't finished. Moping breeds artistic pickiness.
I've been given several creative kicks in the butt but they haven't stuck yet. I'll be in the right environment at some point though, life's a rollercoaster.

SynapticBoomstick In reply to EthanTavitas [2016-06-12 19:12:27 +0000 UTC]
I believe in a few cryptids; the more outlandish the story becomes, the more I need to be convinced.
While I believe life exists elsewhere in the universe, and can see some similarities between our own concept of what that life might be like and a few cryptid reports, I don't find the idea very likely. An alien would have to be very bored to come all this was just to wander around and spook us.
However, if I were said alien, I'd probably do it.

That's why they're confirmed.
Several of the creatures depicted here were originally part of an old commission and were meant to serve as map markers for where different creatures had been reported or discovered. So while I might not have gone for them back when this project started, I had them by the time it really started building up so I thought I might as well include them.

The U-28 mystery is one of my favorite "weird carcass" reports from years past, the only thing keeping it from the list was the sparse information on it at the time this project started up; the less description there is of a given creature, the tougher it is for me to make. I'm too visual for my own good.

I know how you feel I am also to visual for my own good...in fact, I will usually search every corner of the internet when it comes to finding information and pictures of certain things...like I've been recently trying to find pictures or sketches of the Enfield horror and the Bear lake monster...also...this might help on the U-28 creature: vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/c… it kind of reminds me of a prehistoric sea crocodile

it does indeed look like a nothosaurus (cant believe I forgot about that...) also...have you by any chance heard of the Bear lake Monster or the white river monster? (or heck...what about the slide-rock bolter?)

I don't remember the slide-rock bolter but a quick search makes me think that I'd read about it at one point. Leave it to old lumberjack tales, that would be a weird addition.
I have heard of the Bear Lake Monster but the descriptions never agree on a head. I would have to put them into a hat and pick one. Hmm...

those lumberjack tales really make you question what was in there diet (and as for the bear lake monster...I'd say this would be the most common depiction vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/i… it looks a lot like a Smilosuchus to me...
