Description
A BIG THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO HAS VISITED, BROUGHT IDEAS, FAVORITED AND DOWNLOADED AS WELL AS THOSE TO COME! PROJECT CRYPTID CONTINUES TO GROWArtist's Note: I get a lot of questions about adding the Mongolian Death Worm - it is already a part of the collection and has been for a long time now, right between the words in the title. I don't know if it's because people don't see, aren't looking, or just like to mess with me, so I'm putting up this note to assure any and all that the death worm is there.

The current layout for Project Cryptid
Not everything here may be real, I won't argue the point of demon bats and such, but if it's mentioned in myth and lore or anecdotes and reports I'll probably draw it.

That was a popular theory at the time and remains so today: go onto any cryptid forum and search for it, I'll guarantee you that "werewolf" appears within the first five posts .

The Jersey Devil is one of those borderline creatures where you have reported sightings and a long history in the area. On the one side it's heavily shadowed in superstition and the supernatural and on the other people will see something very unusual.
NJD is typically included in a lot of cryptozoology glossaries and being from New Jersey I couldn't pass up including a bit of homegrown oddity.

WTF? Con rit? In Viet Nam, con rit means nothing more than a normal centipede.

The name comes from the descibed appearence. With many of these things there's only so much that I have to go on, which can just as often be little to nothing at all.
Example of a Con-Rit entry: [link]

It's one of those stories that just kind of "is", you know, any source you go to will probably have the same information nearly word for word.
Folks here seem to enjoy the more obscure or outlandish creatures so I do what I can to provide.

I was an avid viewer of Monster Quest when it had new episodes. History is a pretty huge topic so they couldn't have run out of topics. The producers need a boot in the rear.

A fellow cryptogeek . Glad you enjoyed the beasties. While this current piece of work did take a while it wasn't one concentrated session, more like several years of fits and coughs of activity. At such a small size and with the resolution I choose to do them in it can take a while to complete a single cryptid these days without long periods of, "Just be the thing, okay?!" I probably need a serious kick in the butt as far as procrastination goes.
If you're interested, there are several good cryptozoology information and discussion sites listed in the description. Whenever I find a good place with new information I try to make sure I add it.

And I really admire you dedicating years to this! I understand the pixel troubles though
Believe me, I think we all need a procrastination kick-in-the-butt

I did catch that special. I liked the theoretical angle the makers took with it, the "mermaids" not being fish/man hybrids but a continuation of the aquatic ape theory.

Dude I love your Cryptids! Which one do you think is the most scarious?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
SynapticBoomstick In reply to johnis1 [2012-05-21 18:10:52 +0000 UTC]
Interesting question.
I don't find many crypitds to be scary simply due to countless hours spent reading about and studying their histories: you're less likely to fear something you know about and such.
Now, would I still piss myself if a Bigfoot howled outside my window? Yes, I think so.
I'd have to say that the cryptid or cryptids that I find the scariest are those with no explanation, nothing to study or research. Mothman is a good example. Other than the rash of sightings and the Silver Bridge event, there's no information. Nothing. Mothman simply disappears. Where did it come from, if it came at all, and where did it go? Could it return? I don't know. And not knowing is a big root of fear.
