Description A BIG THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO HAS VISITED, BROUGHT IDEAS, FAVORITED AND DOWNLOADED AS WELL AS THOSE TO COME! PROJECT CRYPTID CONTINUES TO GROW

Artist's Note: I get a lot of questions about adding the Mongolian Death Worm - it is already a part of the collection and has been for a long time now, right between the words in the title. I don't know if it's because people don't see, aren't looking, or just like to mess with me, so I'm putting up this note to assure any and all that the death worm is there.

Last Update: Wednesday, July 27th, 2016 (Placeholder Yeti, fixed up the shoulders and legs a little bit; new links and sources)

Behind the Scenes: a look at the process over the years: synapticboomstick.deviantart.c…

Added: New Altamaha-ha

Scheduled Alterations: Buru

Upcoming: -PENDING- (Many informative sites have changed over the years)

Scheduled Next Submitted: Burrunjor, Nahuelito, U-28 Creature

Deviants who have contributed (that have been added so far!):
TFhybrid (Mothman, Tatzel wurm)
LapisBufonis (Marozi),
GreatSaiyaKirby (Hodag, Jackalope, Nandi Bear, Fur-bearing Trout, Flatwoods Monster)
eternalsaturn (Cadborosaurus)
fractalxavier91 (Relic Population sub-category)

Attention: :
There's big change ahead for the project, whatever it may be.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The current layout for Project Cryptid ! I'm always working to better the look and basic design of each creature so suggestions and constructive criticism are always a help. What you see now is composed of five different generations of art style; some have been left unaltered to serve as a visual history of the constant evolution of this project since its initial start.

Not everything here may be real, I won't argue the point of demon bats and such, but if it's mentioned in myth and lore or anecdotes and reports I'll probably draw it.

I hear that the Megalodon is now also a cryptid, since so many people believe it still exists in deep water

Seeing that huge head and jaws emerge from the gloom into the lights of a sub would be equally nightmarish and thrilling. We've explored so little of the deep oceans, it'd be hard to discredit just about anything being down there.

Does that mean you might add the Meg in the list?

SynapticBoomstick In reply to Kaiju-Human [2012-04-22 17:24:37 +0000 UTC]

I've actually been trying to design a Mega for some time, the trouble has been getting the look right within the sprite's size limit.

Kaiju-Human In reply to SynapticBoomstick [2012-04-24 23:29:50 +0000 UTC]

What kinda Mega were you thinking of? A "normal" Great white colored style mega? Or a Mega based off of Steve Alten's "MEG" series?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SynapticBoomstick In reply to Kaiju-Human [2012-04-25 23:24:17 +0000 UTC]

I'm not familiar with the book series, the images I found don't appear very different from the great white type of depiction. I have not picked out colors, I'm still trying to get the shark to look "right". I'm picky so that sometimes takes a long time.

Kaiju-Human In reply to SynapticBoomstick [2012-04-25 23:33:36 +0000 UTC]

Ah, lol, I know the feeling, take your time, no one's rushing you

Oh, and in the MEG series, the Megs are creamy white everywhere, no grey back or anything, and they're bio-luminescent, because they've lived in the Mariana Trench for so long.

that sounds pretty awesome, I wonder if I could get bioluminescence to work in pixel.

HOLY CRAP. You deserve an award for all the effort it took to make this. I think it should be "Crpytids of the World Unite", so it sounds like a cryptid union or something.

Anyway, I like the Mongolian Death Worm the most.

There's a cryptozoology award out there but they haven't found it yet.

Feedback is always great, especially when it comes out of left field, that's what makes the project breath and grow, but nobody has yet made a suggestion for a different tagline. That's new, and new is very interesting! Perhaps a tagline randomizer via Flash. Possibilities

It's nice to see that I'm not the only one into this kind of stuff. Gotta love the cryptids. I hope this isn't a bother but here are some I didn't see on the list. Beast of Bray Road, Salawa, Aswang.

I love how the Shunka Warakin is listed. I thought I was the only one who knew what that was.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SynapticBoomstick In reply to ReadingFool07 [2012-02-06 00:09:33 +0000 UTC]

I try to include lesser-known creatures when I manage to dig up sufficient information.

The Beast of Bray Road is (sort of) included as the Michigan Dogman - search one and you'll probably come up with results for the other. I've been meaning to include the Aswang for a while now, maybe I should get to it.

I think I've heard or seen something on the Salawa before, it rings a bell. Searches return a "wolf-like animal." I'll have to research into it more. Thanks for the tip.

ReadingFool07 In reply to SynapticBoomstick [2012-02-06 00:14:50 +0000 UTC]

The Salawa was on Destination Truth I think. I believe it is from the Egypt area. I think it's a wolf-fox like creature. I try and learn about this kind of stuff whenever I can. My current goal is to find a collage with a cryptozoology course.

SynapticBoomstick In reply to ReadingFool07 [2012-02-06 00:35:49 +0000 UTC]

That sounds about right.

I used to frequent an online community where one of the members was a teacher offering summer courses on the subject. If I can track that information down I'd be happy to provide it.

CloudedQuagga [2012-01-24 22:12:54 +0000 UTC]

I don't think quaggas are cryptids they just were hunted to extinction in the late 1800s but could be wrong though.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SynapticBoomstick In reply to CloudedQuagga [2012-02-06 00:01:21 +0000 UTC]

The quagga is not a "true" cryptid, no, but it's so interwoven with cryptozoology by way of the Quagga Project and sporadic reports of living wild specimens that I felt it needed to be honored here.

I can't help seeing snow when I think "yeti", even though I know there's plenty of clear terrain in the Himalayas. I tried a few different color schemes, some of them darker, but wasn't very happy with the results.

Anyways, hope im not annoying XD Very cool, looks like a fun project! And awesome work!

Did I forget to include "confirmed" or "relic population" in the Thylacine entry? Looks like I did! It's been so long since I updated the text part of this page that little errors slip by here and there. Thanks for bringing that one up, now I can go in and fix the mistake.
