Description A BIG THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO HAS VISITED, BROUGHT IDEAS, FAVORITED AND DOWNLOADED AS WELL AS THOSE TO COME! PROJECT CRYPTID CONTINUES TO GROW

Artist's Note: I get a lot of questions about adding the Mongolian Death Worm - it is already a part of the collection and has been for a long time now, right between the words in the title. I don't know if it's because people don't see, aren't looking, or just like to mess with me, so I'm putting up this note to assure any and all that the death worm is there.

Last Update: Wednesday, July 27th, 2016 (Placeholder Yeti, fixed up the shoulders and legs a little bit; new links and sources)

Behind the Scenes: a look at the process over the years: synapticboomstick.deviantart.c…

Added: New Altamaha-ha

Scheduled Alterations: Buru

Upcoming: -PENDING- (Many informative sites have changed over the years)

Scheduled Next Submitted: Burrunjor, Nahuelito, U-28 Creature

There's big change ahead for the project, whatever it may be.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The current layout for Project Cryptid ! I'm always working to better the look and basic design of each creature so suggestions and constructive criticism are always a help. What you see now is composed of five different generations of art style; some have been left unaltered to serve as a visual history of the constant evolution of this project since its initial start.

Not everything here may be real, I won't argue the point of demon bats and such, but if it's mentioned in myth and lore or anecdotes and reports I'll probably draw it.

Simply amazing work.

Though it seems doubtful whether anything will ever appear on Destination Truth again. Their seasons are only about three episodes long now, right? D:

They reach mid-season on that show sooner with each run it seems. I started to lose hope when they had to turn to ghosts, I mean it's not like the world has a shortage of mythical creatures for Gates to poke fun at.

Are you going to add Slenderman?

SynapticBoomstick In reply to creatureboy02 [2011-05-19 00:15:18 +0000 UTC]

A brief web search tells me two things.

1. Slender Man is not a cryptid.
2. Too many people give far too much credit to what they find on the web. Sorry, George Noory.

I would not even refer to Slender Man as a hoax, but simply a case of fiction that went viral and started being spead as truth, whereas a hoax begins as truth but later is revealed to be fabricated.

It's a creepy story, though, I'll give it that.

The Texas Chupacabra has been proved. It is a mix between a species of wolf and coyote.

I'll have to look into that, didn't hear or read anything about it being identified as a hybrid species, though it was obviously a canid of some kind. Mange, mutation, the theories were all over. Thanks for throwing me a bone.

It was identified by DNA testing on that show Fact or Faked Paranormal Files. A rancher shot one near her ranch, mounted it, and kept the carcass. They are common in the area they were shot at, and are normally seen every 5 to 3 days. There is a video of a living one that was caught on a police officer's dashcam. Do you think they could domesticate the breed?
OH that would be EPIC! I want a Texachupacabra so bad!

Ah, didn't finish that episode, was of the opinion that all had already been said on that case- numerous shows and blogs put it to the test. I'd imagine they'd make pretty bad-tempered pet. Maybe good for guard work, they're creepy enough.

Jack's a tricky legend to classify; was he a man, a monster, a demon, a ghost? It's one of those cases that leaves me unsure on whether it counts or not. Mythology, maybe, but a cryptid? Not sure.

58) Quagga - [Unknown Mammal/Confirmed]

The Quagga was extinct, and is a variety of zebra. I say was, as some scientists are breeding them again. So the Quagga is alive and very real. Here is an article about it: [link]

SynapticBoomstick In reply to Hoku-Luvs-Horses [2010-12-19 03:02:36 +0000 UTC]

It is very real and I have read a bit about the Quagga Project in the past. It makes me wonder how the whole breeding project with preserved wooly mammoth cells has been going, that just dropped off the radar soon after it was announced.

What people take to be back plates are actually a stylized fern that appears in the carvings elsewhere on the grounds. There's also the long shape of the head and the total lack of any tail and spikes, I can't say that I see a stegosaur in the carving. It's only there if someone wants to see it .

It is true that from the technical standpoint the Quagga isn't a cryptid, it sits in the same grey area as the Thylacine.
