I'm currently completely obsessed with backgrounds :\ and usually I only do the background first when I'm not to sure how I should do the subject. I usually do it the way you mentioned as well!

For real? I've been attempting backgrounds on and off, but yeah, they never come out how I want and I just don't have the patience for them So I seriously admire your background abilities

You really really just need to sit down and do them I actually like doing backgrounds (sometimes they are just easier for me then the actual character) so I don't really have experience on how to deal with those problems, sorry! But I do experience patience issues with many other things, usually you have to find a part of them you really like doing! Focus on that part and soon you'll grow to like the whole background process. Like I like going crazy with the base tones of grass, so I force myself to do everything else AND the base tones of grass. Hope this helps... in some way.

I used to do that, but recently for full paintings I dunno I feel as if the backgrounds are 'easier'. Lol cuz it's basically repeating the same steps over and over again (this is why I like grass so much!) so I don't have to plan what to do D: I'm so lazy lol
