I'm so so sorry for how long this took to do, I ended up repainting the background three times (going from the original space theme to sunset horizon to this one) I also completely redrew Kyrrah (because the scene changed and I wanted to add more of her body) But I am so happy with how this painting turned out finally! It's a little bit of a remake of this painting I did before:
(Same sort of shading style and inspired background)
Worked on refining clouds and creating more depth, not sure if either worked out. But I'm quite happy with the colors and the amount of detail in this painting. I used my well tested, well worn soft shading style, but I tried to use more layers or highlights and texture.

Materials: Wacom Intuos4, Photoshop CS6, pencil sketch beforehand. Time taken: Not sure since there was a lot of repainting.

Vision : Well, I would have liked to see the rest of its body, but the face and the moutains on the background are nice (3,5/5)
Originality : Very nice, I like that face and those clouds which are also pretty cool (4,5/5)
Technique : Don't really know how I should rate this. If I should really write something: the blue stuff around the "monster"'s neck are cool and I also like how the sky is done, I mean, i like the colors, blue and progressively white is awesome (4/5)
Impact : I think that the way that it looks out is well done, but as I said before, I would have prefered to see the reste of the body, seems like something is missing. You could have shown whole body, it would have been more "impressive" (3,5/5)

Thanks Sez! Smooth shading is really really easy to do~! It only requires a lot of layers to make it look more like a 3d form. Just use the opacity flow brush in default PS, I used 3 layers for shadows and two for highlights (one for reflected light).

Wow, this is insanely gorgeous! I especially love the 'gritty' texture of the shading, and the detail in the eye. Not to mention such a pretty background.

Thanks!! I messed around with skin/scaley textures on the character, it was great fun and I loved the look of it. Probably going to keep doing this for any other 'smooth skined' characters in future. The eye came out a lot better than I thought, though I don't think I portrayed her pupil-less characteristic very well <___<"
