Description That's right a third set of blades. I think I like making these.

Anywho. The small one is Horse for the blade and Turkey for the handle. The long one is Ostrich for the blade and Horse for the handle

how hard are they?

Hard enough to go through 6 layers of standard cardboard.
They don't hold an edge for long though, so keeping them sharp is difficult.

Do you still make blades like this?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tabbicatt In reply to shadow6558 [2011-03-29 23:52:31 +0000 UTC]

Of course. When I have the materials. I can make two blades currently. However my work shop is buried under spring cleaning and won't be freed for a week at best.
If you're interested, I trade for goods and services, as well as coin.

Are they actually sharp?? I do bonecarving myself.. have just started and only done two things.. but i want to make a small one for me to carry.. how do you do it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tabbicatt In reply to Reviros [2011-02-13 22:17:43 +0000 UTC]

They don't carry much of an edge, but the point can stay poke worthy. If you used them for protection, they would be most effective as thrusting weapons.

As for how. I choose the part of the leg bone, cut it loose, decide what the blade shape will be, the take it to a belt sander. Once the overall shape is to satisfaction, I finish the edge with a Dremel. Then I sand it by hand with sand paper and a sanding sponge.

Thanks.. i dont currently ahve a belt sander,a dn have just been using a dremel for all my work. but i will be getting one soon. Do you think that an antler would work for the Blade? a am just making a small wrist-blade style one, only a couple of inches long.

Tabbicatt In reply to Reviros [2011-02-15 00:49:37 +0000 UTC]

An antler would be uniquely suited for a blade.
If you can cut a band longways down the middle, say a quarter inch thick, it should do just fine.

Thank you. I have a buck antler that has a VERY thick section. so i will use that. thank you very much.

Thank you. I just have one more question, can the blade and the handle be all one piece, or must you carve them seperately?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tabbicatt In reply to Reviros [2011-02-21 18:48:12 +0000 UTC]

Either will work. The designe of the blade is only limited by the horn, and your tools.

I am delighted that people can actually do this!!!

I featured a "Blade of Bone" in one of my stories (fanfic, actually) - it was made from dragon, though, and was a huge two-hander.

Do you sell these?

Tabbicatt In reply to Spoon333 [2010-10-13 23:41:25 +0000 UTC]

Yes I do. There is no set price at the moment. So I usually start by asking...How much would you expect to pay for them?
