Description The technical first generation of Royal Cubs. These three would be the only daughters of Awali, and the children of his only mate. He kind of struck out of the norm and took only one mate, something many other Prides would also try to follow eventually.

Now one thing the King wanted was for his daughters to have a childhood he never had. He never wanted them to experience what he had. So he made sure to keep danger away from them at all costs.

He however didn't want to any of his daughters to feel lesser to one another either. So he decided to split his Kingdom into three, with each daughter inheriting one of them.

However his flaw was that it became almost a competition between the daughters of which land to inherit. After all one of them was to get the barren wasteland, and no one truly wanted that.

Jua and Nyota was mostly competing however, with Mwezi preferring to go with the flow and just live life. And for the two sisters it worked out for them.

Jua won the Pridelands, and Nyota won the lands behind in the Back dubbed originally as Backlands. Mwezi was left with the barren Outlands.

And for a time it was peaceful, their father retired and peacefully moved between territories. It was comfortable. Jua became a highly respected ruler, and wanted to learn a way to communicate with herbivores. Nyota while considered a ruler within the Backlands found herself just a member of the Pride rather then someone to hold in high regards. Mwezi even found love within the Outlands, and came to find the beauty and life within the supposed barren land.

However jealousy always rears it's head eventually. And Jua, who got the lions share of the territory couldn't help but begin to feel spiffed. She was the oldest, it was her right to inherit the entire Kingdom- not divide it. Her father the conquerer brought all the land underneath his paws, why should his work be undone?

And it seemed the Great Spirit was listening to her, as Askari arrived. The perfect soldier.

Silently she and him gathered more soldiers, rogue males who lingered by the border who wished to enter the Kingdoms, to continue their bloodlines, to find a place to settle. This would be considered the First Guard, though it barely resembled one seen in present day.

She also worked with the herbivores of the land. Mending language barriers to help communicate with them and broaden hunting rules. Which her work with prey animals were heard of by herbivores in her sister's kingdoms.

Which was probably why when she launched her attack on Nyota's kingdom, her subjects didn't oppose them. The only enemies they faced was the Pride within the Kingdom. Thus she took her sister prisoner, and casted the males in the Pride out. And declared herself the Ruler of the territory.

The males fled to Mwezi's territory, and the Pride knew it was only a matter of time. Awali even was flabbergasted by this, but when he had gone to approach his daughter he was refused and sent away.

There was scuffles for sure, with the now blustered number in males patrolling the Outland borders to prevent any assault, but it was only a waiting game. One that would end eventually.

It was a long battle, and it only ended when Mwezi was dead. Now historians of present day go back and forth, with some claiming that she wasn't the only casualty. But no one really desires to bring it up. After all the other suggested casualties implies that cubs were purposefully killed.

But what it is agreed upon is the youngest daughter's death seemed to snap Jua out of her jealousy. And she withdrew. She didn't declare herself the ruler of the Outlands. She simply abandoned it. Leaving the subjects and Pride that inhabited the lands to live there without interference

Which would eventually become the fate of the Backlands as well after a generation. Her sister, Nyota notably wasn't recorded after Mwezi's death. Leaving many to speculate she was either executed, exiled or simply escape. The latter is the most likely with the Backland Pride of lions also disappearing similarly.

Many aren't too willing to share this part of Jua's rule. After all she had made lengths to work with herbivores in the land, welcomed in an eventual folk Hero in the Kingdom, and with him helped create what would one day become the Guard. She was the building block to the modern Kingdom known today.

The war was just a part of her history that marred her rule. One no one was quite willing to speak about often, not without turning it to instead show her in a better light of trying to reclaim land from her "jealous" sisters.

This event would often be explained for why she set up the first betrothal, and sent her youngest daughter away so quickly. Presumed fear that the same may happen once more within the kingdom. That another sister bond would crumble under jealousy and greed.

Jua would rule until the day she died at an older age. One of the longer lived Queens of the Kingdom, and one that was highly respected. And even in modern times she is, though many don't know the truth behind the war she herself waged.

The three daughters, oh how they've drastically changed since my first draft. Originally Nyota was the first Guard and a maned lioness. Askari was incorrectly remembered as the first guard.

However when I wanted to take more influence from Shakespearean plays, one very obvious one stuck out. King Lear. And thus that changed things drastically.

The only difference between the other generations I guess is that our antagonist does end up winning in the end. Jua the oldest daughter wins. Though it's a bitter win for her.

And she only had one sister killed in the end so good for her I guess.

Also since it never came up, Jua's mate is Askari. Though it is very short lived. Thus making him the father of Kirauni and Chuma. There was no true romance between them, she saw someone strong and knew that he'd provide even stronger cubs.

Which also unfortunately for the Kingdom as well, Mwezi's Pride would come to bite them back throughout the history. Grief and hatred is a wonderous thing.

Just one more before this generation, and then I'll go all the way back to Gen 5 with Mohatu's parents generation. After that I may do Mohatu and possibly Ahadi and stop there. The Royal Cubs are known after them tbh.
