Description
Oh yeah. Startin' off the new year with tutorial submissions!Well, I had my camera downstairs in my sewing room with me while I was working on my latest, spontaneous Wai-Loli outfit, and I figured, what the hell. More pictures are good by me. I was working on putting a zipper into the pleated skirt, and figured that this was something I've struggled with for longer than you can imagine, until just recently.
I must emphasize, this is just following the instructions that are on the little inset thinger that comes with zippers - that sheet that I used to just throw away! *sigh* I just wanted to do a photo, "step-by-step" in the hopes that it doesn't seem so frightening to do. This is the most basic form of putting in a zipper, and shows the topstitching.
I'll try to do the other types eventually, too. Like, whenever I wind up putting one in next.
And I'm so sorry - it seems like I am always working on red projects when I decide to take pictures for a tutorial - I hope this one is pretty easy to see, though!

Really?! Awesome I'm so happy to hear that it makes sense, and that you could use it!
If you put a picture or three up on dA, I'll them right away! I love seeing what people make with the tutorials

Hmmm...
This one is confusing and very hard to understand. The pictures don't really explain a lot either.
Do remember I'm extremely inexperienced though.
><;
Anyway, I'll probably have to read this a few times. The zipper does look nice, and I really wanted a zipper for my cosplay of Matt from Death Note. ^^ So, I'll go over this and experiment.

me too, I know how you feel. I still dislike putting them in, but after doing so many of them, you kind of get used to it *sigh*

LOL don't I know it, give me a small picture and I can recreate the whole outfit...ask me to put in a zipper or successfully render a button hole and I'll end up curled in the corner! Thanks again

They're definitely not as bas as you'd think - just practice on one or two before putting it in a major garment, but otherwise, glad to help

lol did you know in manufacturing for the fashion industry this is called a kissing zipper? I was disturbed by that for awhile. If you say centered zipper to a manufacturer they ask you where its centered... O_o

Highly useful! Oh, and a quick question: how/when do you oil a sewing machine?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
taeliac In reply to BrokenEver [2008-01-14 21:06:14 +0000 UTC]
Thank you!~
Hrm... I'm not sure - it's different on how for each machine, but I usually oil mine every 2 weeks or so (1 week if it's being used a lot).
Check your manual for information on where to oil it- usually, you ahve to disassemble it somewhat to get to the places to oil it... *reminds me to oil machines*

BrokenEver In reply to taeliac [2008-01-15 16:12:32 +0000 UTC]
I don't know where I put the book, haha.. I guess I'll have to dig it out. I've had it for a couple of years and have never oiled it..
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
taeliac In reply to BrokenEver [2008-01-15 20:14:11 +0000 UTC]
Yeah - I get like that, too. Usually, it's not too big of a deal, really.
Do you have a drop in bobbin, or a front-loading bobbin? That kind of determines where you oil it, as far as I know.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
taeliac In reply to BrokenEver [2008-01-17 18:34:27 +0000 UTC]
Hrm... then it should be pretty easy to clean. What I ususally do is take off the top plate (usually, it needs to be unscrewed - this is usually the part with the stitching guide on it) and pick out all the lint and stuff that gathers under there. Where to oil, however, I'm unsure of I'll see if I have one of my manuals floating around - what brand is your machine?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
BrokenEver In reply to taeliac [2008-01-20 23:49:29 +0000 UTC]
It's a Huskystar219. I hardly ever use it, so I don't see any lint.. and it hasn't burned up or caught fire yet.
