Description
Oh yeah. Startin' off the new year with tutorial submissions!Well, I had my camera downstairs in my sewing room with me while I was working on my latest, spontaneous Wai-Loli outfit, and I figured, what the hell. More pictures are good by me. I was working on putting a zipper into the pleated skirt, and figured that this was something I've struggled with for longer than you can imagine, until just recently.
I must emphasize, this is just following the instructions that are on the little inset thinger that comes with zippers - that sheet that I used to just throw away! *sigh* I just wanted to do a photo, "step-by-step" in the hopes that it doesn't seem so frightening to do. This is the most basic form of putting in a zipper, and shows the topstitching.
I'll try to do the other types eventually, too. Like, whenever I wind up putting one in next.
And I'm so sorry - it seems like I am always working on red projects when I decide to take pictures for a tutorial - I hope this one is pretty easy to see, though!

I'm definitely the same way - if they wouldn't have forced us to do it so often with school, I'd still not know how to do it (and, I still screw them up regularly )
Glad it will be helpful

*pokes* How bout the infamous invisible zipper now? or the death-defying lapped zipper?

Okay,.. so my response in fact didn't post!
I was thinking of that, but the invisible zipper takes the foot that most people may not have, plus it's different model-to-model. And, you're the only person I know who's had success with that damnable plastic thing you can buy in lieu of one for your machine model...
The lapped zipper?
No thank you XP

It is because I am magic. See, the crappy foot only works with a crappy machine (which is now broken, by the by...)

Oh noes! Now, that sucks! But, you are magic - maybe you can fix it? Do you know what's wrong?

The tension is all crappy, and it makes "ka-chunka" noises. And it isn't aligned properly, so you can't line up the little groove with your stitching line. I'm not sure if it's even worth fixing...

Oooh.... one of our machines had that happen with - but, it was a cheap Brother machine, so we just tossed it out. I dunno... we can try to take it in and see if he can look at it, if you'd like!

Meh, it's a crap-tacular singer, so I'm not terribly broken up about it--'s probably not even worth it. And there's always Mum's Janome that hates me...

Ah, gotcha... too bad, tho. Hopefully your mom's Janome won't eat your soul (or hand, or foot XP)

I know! They're a huge pain, they drive me crazy to put in... although, I've done enough for school that they're not *too* bad, but I still complain when I have to put them in
Glad it's helpful!
I think I'm out to improve cosplay, one tutorial & costume at a time!

Yeah... stupid renaissance outfits being without the "slide fastener" *envious*
Just wait... one day... The zipper will get you!
Thank you

LOL, I love the part about screaming into a pillow. I do that ALL the time! But then it gives me a sore throat.
Zippers are my bane when it comes to sewing. When I first started sewing, I would make all of my costumes outta stretchy fabrics so I wouldn't need them!

Oh yeah. Me too. Totally -- zippers are usually evil. Although, this is the second one that went in successfully in a row, which means the really, really expensive education has paid off for something -______-;
And the pillow? All the time, same here.

Eck, the only zippers I can do right is when you have to put the flap in on one side. I can't do centered ones, and don't even ask about invisible zippers.
LOL, it must be a seamstress thing. Notice how the word "seamstress" has the word "stress" in it?

Ya know, I can do invisible zippers now, magically. Struggled with them for years, and then for my Christmas skirt thinger, it went in like magic... and I don't know why!!
"Stress" indeed Indeed...
