Description
Well, as Halloween is coming up, I thought I would get a simple accessory tutorial up for you guys, that might help with your costume! They work wonderfully as a substitute (or cute accessory) for a school uniform, they also work for a kitty outfit, most Lolita outfits (please note: this might not be quite "in fashion" now, or readily accepted by the EGL community - do some research first so no one says anything :3), and stuff like that. Also, if you substitute a few measurements, they work wonderfully for arm warmers as well!I had Illustrator open for working on those Sew Village characters, so I did this one in Illustrator - changed the uploaded image from a PNG to a JPG, hopefully, it looks nicer now...
Anywho, a simple tutorial for how I make my leg warmers. They're usually made of fleece or knit, but if you're making it out of a non-knit fabric, read the note at the top about adding extra.
I hope this helps you all out a bit! Happy (early) Halloween

Oh awesome! They'll definitely set off any Lolita outfit - I have one, and the leg thingers (and some hand thingers out of lace, using the same pattern idea, that look like gloves cuz they're short!) are just too much fun!
If you upload a pic to dA of your outfit, I'll definitely
it

I made these out of fake fur in less than 2 hours. They're exactly what I've been wanting! Thank you so much for the tutorial. Oh- I needed about a yard and a quarter of fur to make mine (thick calves!).

would this also work for arm warmers?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
taeliac In reply to sakurablossoms12321 [2009-04-06 05:17:29 +0000 UTC]
Yep! You would just want to do less flare, depending on how tight you want the arm warmers to be, but you figure the lengths pretty much the same way

this is going to sound stupid but how much elastic do i need?
The size of my calf or one inch smaller?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
taeliac In reply to Bastet02 [2009-02-06 16:17:49 +0000 UTC]
Oh! Usually, about an inch and a half smaller than where the leg warmer is sitting. Try them on, though, before you stitch off the elastic, it may need to be tighter, depending on the fabric you're using

👍: 0 ⏩: 1
taeliac In reply to ManaMiyahara [2009-01-14 18:12:21 +0000 UTC]
I'm happy it's helpful! And, yes! It works great for arm warmer type things - just don't add as much flare to the sides, I usually only do 2 or 3" on the sides, instead of 6-8"

omg. I love you so much.
I'm planning to do a Len and Rin (from Vocaloid) cosplay with a friend and I was really worried about the arm and leg warmers.
When you say elastic, what do you mean? Rubber band?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
taeliac In reply to Reb320 [2008-12-28 05:00:34 +0000 UTC]
Hooray! I definitely hope it helps!
Elastic is... elastic... it's something you get from the fabric store, it's a stretchy... band... of stuff - sorry! I can't think of how to describe it, other than elastic

Reb320 In reply to taeliac [2008-12-28 05:17:59 +0000 UTC]
Fabric store, that's all I needed to know.
I'll link the pictures of the finished warmers, even if they fail. ^_^

I don't have any decen't fabric, but I'm going to try on some other fabric I have and maybe make some better ones with better fabric if they go well. I have a thing for arm and leg warmers.
