Description
Well, as Halloween is coming up, I thought I would get a simple accessory tutorial up for you guys, that might help with your costume! They work wonderfully as a substitute (or cute accessory) for a school uniform, they also work for a kitty outfit, most Lolita outfits (please note: this might not be quite "in fashion" now, or readily accepted by the EGL community - do some research first so no one says anything :3), and stuff like that. Also, if you substitute a few measurements, they work wonderfully for arm warmers as well!I had Illustrator open for working on those Sew Village characters, so I did this one in Illustrator - changed the uploaded image from a PNG to a JPG, hopefully, it looks nicer now...
Anywho, a simple tutorial for how I make my leg warmers. They're usually made of fleece or knit, but if you're making it out of a non-knit fabric, read the note at the top about adding extra.
I hope this helps you all out a bit! Happy (early) Halloween

And I thought leg warmers would be more difficult to make. I have try this as soon as I get some fabric.

Naw, they're really easy
And, you can reshape them however you want (I just made a pair for a friend that have like bat-wing shapes on the bottom hem), too
I'm glad to be of help!

Cool! I attempted to make some last year, but they didn't turn out so well and somehow I jabbed a pin into my leg.
Thanks for making it!

No it wasn't--it was a really nasty bruise as a result.
Actually, I'm planning to use your tutorial for remaking my Chrono cosplay (what I was making the leg warmers for the first attempt).

i forgot to ask earlier but, about how many yards of fabric would this take?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
taeliac In reply to Luna1693 [2008-10-25 15:33:12 +0000 UTC]
d'oh! I know I should have posted up that, too! They shouldn't take more than a yard to make - it's more based on how wide they actually wind up being, and which way the stretch on the fabric goes (it should go around your leg, so they're more comfortable) but 1 yard or sometimes even 1/2 yard would work for them

The way I've made them, they're practically the same thing, except use your forearm instead of calf, and length that you want them to be. Instead of bringing it out 6-8" on the sides, I usually only do a 2" flare or so But, same thing, basically

I've wanted something like this for AGES, but just never looked it up (and never wanted to spend however much on them at cons when I know I could make them for a fraction of the cost)
Thank you SOOOO much!!

I know - I saw someone at ACen (goddess boutique?) selling them for like $40 a pair!! Holy crap! Seriously?! Not worth it... So I know what you mean
I almost blew a gasket seeing that after the corset lady there (you DO NOT lace WAISTREDUCING corsets with RIBBON!! PAIN!)
Sorry... I think I just channeled my ACen rage

FutureCarrotLab In reply to taeliac [2008-10-24 02:18:27 +0000 UTC]
Haha, it's quite fine!
And I mean, yeah, you can over charge somewhat at conventions, since most people are there *to spend money*, but... not *that* much ><
I paid how ever much at no brand con for the Slants hoodie they had, then another $20 to one of the guys selling hats for putting super long bunny ears into the hood. It's something I really could have done myself, but, meh, it's alright, I had the money then.

I hear you - sometimes, I understand, but... it's kind of like the kitty hat thing... I don't get why places can get away with charging $40+ for a HAT of all things... really... they're not that well made, or take that much fabric, or anything... I just don't get it sometimes...
And, where do all the otaku get the monies from?! Cuz I want in on that
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
FutureCarrotLab In reply to taeliac [2008-10-26 03:17:51 +0000 UTC]
I don't think many of them get lots of money, I think it's right after taxes come back, and people save up all year for cons xD
For me, No Brand is usually where my taxes go to (last year, I got my taxes in my account *the friday* no brand started) xDDD

taeliac In reply to FutureCarrotLab [2008-10-29 15:34:28 +0000 UTC]
