This tutorial has been a lifesaver! I've been putting off coloring a character I drew weeks ago because I couldn't get her skin to look right. I found your tutorial through a Google search. Thank you so much for making this!

The final product, if you'd like to see it: [link]

This is awesome!!!! This opens up so many new possibilies! I usually color in, I guess you'd call them stripes, of the different colors and sghades, then I blend them together, but I never really thought of it this way! You're great!

sunatsubu [2010-05-28 04:00:45 +0000 UTC]

awesome tutorial! I haven't used colored pencils in years, so this really helped when my tablet completely died and I couldn't use photoshop for a bunch of gifts I was planning to do so I had to hand draw/color everything...argh...anyway, ignore my mini rant, lol. I really like ur other traditional works too, its pretty refreshing among all the digital art I'm used to browsing.

taintedsilence In reply to sunatsubu [2010-05-28 14:27:33 +0000 UTC]

haha, its cool. I like using traditional stuff, and I used it a lot in high school and college cause it was way easier to carry around a box of colored pencils than a huuuuge heavy laptop and tablet . . . and power cord. Now that I have my own place and don't have classes to doodle in, I've switched to digital a little more, but I still love my pencils and markers.

taintedsilence In reply to Miarath [2010-04-05 19:38:47 +0000 UTC]

haha, like I said, its not the 'only' way, nor is it the 'best' way. Its just what I do.

Miarath In reply to taintedsilence [2010-04-05 19:58:04 +0000 UTC]

Oh, okay, I understand, but it's good to know other ways of colouring to try out than doing it always the same way.

This is a great tutorial, although it looks like I need to buy some more prismas now I only bought the portrait set, so I have peaches and stuff but no colours that 'pop' such as the mulberry But thanks, the info on blending is quite helpful.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

taintedsilence In reply to Sephiroth98 [2010-02-18 05:19:41 +0000 UTC]

haha, you can use whatever colors you'd like, most people probably use greys. I just like the purples because they give a little bit more depth to the skin.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sephiroth98 In reply to taintedsilence [2010-02-18 12:48:39 +0000 UTC]

Yeah the purple did really work on that drawing I think I might buy a 24 pack and then some greys too

taintedsilence In reply to Sephiroth98 [2010-02-18 21:28:58 +0000 UTC]

You can usually get them individually for a pretty good price.
