As long as you're aware something is wrong, you will not let yourself fall into this state. This is also a scene I'm would not let anyone be pushed into voluntarily, but it's necessary for the sake of the story, unfortunately.

I love the detail he is melting more when clearly really upset. Not only his mind having a break down but his body does it too. Poor buddy...

The only 'good' thing is that he's ware that something is wrong, if you could even call it this way. And because of this, he won't allow into this crack of the mind. There wouldn't be any way out of it, if he'd let himself fall.

At least he got it a bit easier than others. I mean he can still see the world around him. Its not just dark empthynes. So he got it better than most Gasters who are stuck in the void.

I dunno... Even though he may can see the world, but he's still all on his own.
Besides... Mender!Gaster is not outside the Void. He's still stuck in it.
The problem is that we can not really understand what the Void is in Undertale, so it's abit hard to tell.
Personally I think that he can be temporary 'in a place', walk between the planes of existence, so to speak, but not really intereact with anything in this plane, since he can't touch anything.
Btw....
There is a void in reality actually, but I dunno if it's the same and I won't explain this now, because it's quantum physics.

True. You got good points there. But I mostly think of the void that Gaster in is like those of some Au`s I saw. Dark empthyness with nothing. So thats why I said that.
