Sister Martha is a nun from a secret sect of the church known as the Fist of the Forgotten that serves the dual-purpose of recruiting lost souls who have strayed into the realm of underground fighting as well as using the winnings from dabbling in such fights to fund the church.Β Her primary mandate is to scout unaffiliated, unhappy, or unwilling participants in the underground fight scenes she frequents and either return them to their families (in the cases of human trafficking), rehabilitate them, or even convinve them to join the Fists of the Forgotten.Β The coin she fleeces from what the church sees a as a bunch of sinners is a bonus.

Heheh, thanks!Β Sounds like her and my 'nun boxer' Sister Beatrice would get along well!Β Sister Beatrice is an actual pro pugilist who donates all of her purses to her order and boxes to put to good use her frustrations and anger from the stories of unwanted and abandoned children showing up on the doorstep of the shelter her order runs and she's primarily a wet nurse at when she's not training for fights.Β Sister Beatrice has also become a highly skilled nutritionist by necessity so she can design for herself a diet provides her body the resources to both compete in the boxing ring and serve as a wet nurse.Β I created her as a homage to the nun Angela from One Pound Gospel.
I like that Sister Martha's sect doesn't see the participants in the underground fight scene as irredeemably lost when many of them are far from it and worth extending a helping hand to.Β I would think that she also helps ensure the wagering stays 'clean', well as clean as you can hope for in such settings, and the bookies aren't blatantly hustling the bettors, and also helps the organizers keep underground events 'clean enough' that the authorities don't have a reason to raid and shut down an event and EVERYBODY then being in serious trouble! ^^

(At first glance the proceedings above may appear a little strange to modern eyes; actually they are sorta kinda Irish, or more properly what used to be called the "De Valera Dispensation" by some. Heavily John Fordized, of course, but you can't beat John Ford. In fact the tableau above is strongly reminiscent of one of the great director's compositions, not to mention subject matter.)
