Before the Brainship, there was the bioship, a vessel piloted by a TANGO supersoldier whose viral biomass was mutated to cover all parts of the ship, enabling it to control all its systems as a seamless extension of itself and removing the need for a human crew, allowing higher Gs without physical harm. However the data overload melted their brains, causing a tortorous cycle of death and rebirth until the biomass adapted to the neural control system. By that time, the TANGO pilots were reduced to animalistic entities bent on murder and destruction.

When the third bioship, 4G-0003, returned from Pazoska, Project Pzyon had finished working prototypes of its psionic implants and there was an interest in incorporating the implants into the bioships in hopes of restoring their former human intelligences. What happened was 4G-0003 instead was driven insane by psionic visions and it rampaged across the system destroying pursuing military vessels and orbital defence stations with telekinetic force. In an effort to calm the psionic bioship down, ten monks of various faiths from the Indrayama Sangha reached out to it and offered a radical solution; assimilate their intelligences and knowledge and use them to control its psionic powers. For a brief moment, 4G-0003 agreed. The monks entered its hangar bays in a shuttle and never appeared again. 4G-0003 then warped out of the system.

Weeks later, 4G-0003 returned, with four more like itself. Now calling itself the First Sage and rebuilt as a giant armored brain-shaped ship, the First Sage proclaimed that the bioship project was no longer necessary as each of the Five Sages can produce their own from their cloned viral biomass, this new fleet of psionic bioships was subsequentl dubbed the Fleethood, one of the three branches of the Order of the Mandala alongside the Pzyon Corps and the Indrayama Sangha. While IDEOKOM likes to pretend that they are in control of the Order, in truth, the Five Sages are its leaders with the Order's followers venerating their wealth of psionic knowledge and terrible powers.

While possessing no special armaments or combat abilities, the First Sage's capabilities lies in the accumulated wisdom of the ten monks, which it uses to lead the Order and extend its influence over those who seek knowledge of the hidden power. It currently leads the Fleethood in a galaxy-wide expedition to find and study various psionic sources and phenomena in Ancerious, seemingly independent of any higher political authority and only vowing to return if the Republik is in grave danger.
