I don’t agree with the Pachirisu/Emolga one , but the other ones are reasonable.

I believe someone at gamefreak said "all roght! starting from gen 5 onwards, we will have completely new pokemon that domt evolve from any existing pokemon!"(exept eevee)

And they fail'd at it miserably....

I don't think Maractus looks like it'd be in Cacnea line (different face and color scheme) and the Pikachlones just don't evolve into each other. Though I think that Alomomola make s sense, it makes the most sense out of those.

Geez, wow, you obviously don't see the point of Pokemon evolution. Just... Just stop.

Yeah that ones bothered me too
When I first Saw Alomomola I thought, Oh hey this must be the evolved form of that Crappy Heart Pokemon Luvdisc
Nope!
WTF?!?
to be honest Gen 5 has a lotta weird Choices.

I agree completely with this one.
I love Emolga, and both Cacturne and Maractus, but this would make so much more sense.

Pokémon design-wise, I mean. There are some good creations, like Volcarona, but aside from that couple Pokémon, a huge chunk of GEN 5 Pokémon are homages to already existing Pokémon. I'm not saying I dislike GEN 5, but in terms of Pokémon designs, definitely the weakest generation.

Frankly, the Vannilite line is one of the more creative designs in GEN 5, ehehe

I've always wondered that with Luvdisc and Alomomola.
Pachirisu and Emolga don't look THAT much similar.
And yeah Caturne and Maractus should've been a female evolution line

Omg, I now realized that ! But I guess there should also be a middle evolution since it appears like a pretty drastic evolution.

Why Metapod evolves ito Butterfree?
And why Venonat into Venomoth?
Expectations:
Also fifth generation doesn't have pokemon of past generation, that's why Luvisc doesn't evolve into Alomomola, Cacnea into Maractus and Pachirisu into Emolga

That whole thing was actually planned, but when Ash caught a Caterpie, people thought kids would connect more easily with Butterfree, so they went, "Switcheroo!"

Wrong. Pokemon coming for first and second gen - mostly bug type - are based on species that actually exist on our world.
Caterpillar's design, for example, takes it's inspiration from the Papilio Troilus : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Papilio_… . You can see that, between it's larval and butterfly stade, both forms share almost no morphologic similarities over their appearance.
The second point, and actually the most important, is that Ken Sugimori - the creator of pokemon - is an insect lover: he, in fact, got the idea of pokemon coming from his personnal experience from catching insect during his childhood. Consequently, all insect pokemon design's coming from the first and second gen come directly from under his supervision. There is absolutely no mistakes and no "marketing planification of likeness" (at least not as a core reason) concerning Caterpillar's presence in Ash's team.

Ok, now I understand, but another confusing moment is why Nidoran of both genders, Nidorino and Nidoking can breed but Nidorina and Nidoqueen can't
This is so confusing

well they could have been design as an evolutionary line, but since they decided to do only Unova Pokemon in Black/White, I feel like gamefreak went all forget about those pokemon and hope the fans don't noticed it.

threeQuestions [2014-03-17 11:45:09 +0000 UTC]
It's mostly because in Black and White they didn't include pokemon from older games until postgame.
That doesn't really make it less upsetting though.

FowlFox In reply to threeQuestions [2014-03-29 17:04:23 +0000 UTC]
Even though they hadn't it wouldn't have mattered. They brought in new pokemon in Diamond and Pearl after all, and didn't really make their first forms available until Platinum; like Yanma evolving into Yanmega and Tegoepi into Togekiss. So they could have easily done that with Black & White and their sequels

sweettjrose [2014-02-23 19:45:58 +0000 UTC]
But Luvdisc is a Discus Fish and Alomomola is a sunfish. I guess you could look at it as why we have so many kinds of tigers and cactuses.

This wouldn't be the first time a species evolved into a new species, though. Take Remoraid-Octillery, Slugma-Magcargo, etc.

sweettjrose In reply to Tayzonrai [2014-02-24 03:44:23 +0000 UTC]
Well they wanted Unova to be seperate from the other regions... Due to that it was based off of New York instead of Japan...

Tayzonrai In reply to sweettjrose [2014-02-24 07:14:02 +0000 UTC]
If Game Freak didn't want to create such similar Pokémon to some past ones, they shouldn't have made them that way. At least, that's my take on it.

sweettjrose In reply to Tayzonrai [2014-02-25 01:37:23 +0000 UTC]
But that was the intention of Generation 5... It was supposed to be a somewhat remake of Gen 1 pokemon in hopes to give fans a feeling similar to Kanto... That is why some pokemon are so similar to other pokemon, they meant to do that
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Tayzonrai In reply to sweettjrose [2014-02-25 07:12:52 +0000 UTC]
You have a point, but I don't see how making a Pokémon's design similar to a Gen 2, 3 or 4 Pokémon would make it seem like Kanto. If anything, X and Y pulled off the nostalgic appeal of Gen 1 perfectly by actually including a number of Kanto Pokemon.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
sweettjrose In reply to Tayzonrai [2014-02-25 20:12:11 +0000 UTC]
Well they wanted to give new fans a chance to have a region like Kanto, not exactly Kanto itself... And my main issue is that X and Y tried to hard to fan service to older fans rather than be its own region and own experiance for newer fans (I mean did Charizard and Mewtwo really need two forms) despite being great games. Plus. Johto had a lot of Kanto too so it really wasn't needed. And what Pokemon are you talking about... Most of them are based off of Kanto pokemon Sawk and Throh - Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee, Audino - Chansey... If you are talking about the cactuses... Cacturne are based off of Desert thieves (Arabian more likely) while Maractus is based off of Cactus flowers and Mexican culture. Also I said before different species.
