I sometimes wonder how will a normal Pikachu can Fly up...? Like, really Game Freak? You just need balloons for that matter? What happens if they pop all of a sudden? And like, how long can this critter keep up in the air? (It really doesn't make sense that Fly is part of Pikachu's moveset)

Pikachu can fly? Bruh. ( i read description though)
But, still the weird thing is..
Pikachu can learn strength maybe in gen 4 games.
We now don't need Machoke, Bidoof and others. Pikachu will be our HM and TM Slave. XD

Pikachu can only learn Fly through an event. With balloons.
Golurk uses its arms as rockets.

Golurk using Fly now sorta reminds me of Big Hero 6.
Gee, I wonder why?

Also it made sense because pikachu has been seen on riding on balloons occasionally on some games for example Pokemon snap. Sorry that I forgot this one.

I honestly think Mantine, Scyther, and Butterfree should learn fly but I think Mantine 's based on a stingray and Mantine do live underwater and on water. Plus, Scyther and Butterfree are light weighted Bug type pokemon so that explains why they can't learn fly. However, having a Pikachu to know fly is the most illogical thing I've seen when it comes to a pokemon's moveset.Β Sure, Pikachu has flew with other flying pokemon in the anime and it made sense why he can learn this move, but I still think it's stupid because He DOESN'T have ANY WINGS and Fly won't help him anyway since his weakness are Ground type pokemon and He has poor defense and special defense.

I'm late...but Pidgey,Hoothoot,Tailow,Starly,Pidove,and Fletchling can all learn Fly.And they are lighter(I think?)than Pikachu.

You're actually right... Darn, I forgot their weights. Pikachu indeed is heavier than those you listed. I always didn't get why those guys can learn fly despite their size and weight. Even when I used Spearow of any other flying Pokemon, in Leafgreen, I'm thinking I probably would cause damage on the poor guy if I teach and use him to fly. That's why I evolve most of my bird Pokemon till their final forms. I have to say, you definitely made a good point there.

First of all,Pikachu learning fly in the Pokewalker tecnically isn't from the actual games,Dodrio is a bird pokemon, most if not all bird pokemon know fly,Glourk can learn fly because its pokedex entries say that it uses rockets that are on its body. Syther,Butterfree, and Mantine can't learn fly because being a flying type doesn't always mean they're Fly compatable

Pikachu uses ballooons, Golurk can transform into a rocket, Dodrio... I have no idea. But is unfair to Scyther and Mantine dont learn Fly, because they both can carry a human during a flying travel, like Heracross, Yanmega, Scizor and Gliscor, but Butterfree... It's very small (Despite there's small bird and bat pokΓ©mon that can learn Fly...)

Dotrio spins it's heads like helecopter blades.

That sounds incredibly painful, after you realize that it has no pivot points. Eventually either it has to stop and untwist its heads, or its heads fall off.

Zecorezecron In reply to DemonicLucario [2015-01-11 05:21:26 +0000 UTC]
Well, considering that Piachu probably flys by making itself into a vasimir engine, I think a pivoting head is perfectly reasonable.

Pikachu just flies by tying balloons to itself. It is in the beginning of Pokemon yellow. And there is a card showing this as well.

Balloons can only provide lift, not thrust.

-Golurk was meant to be based on the Japanese Giant Robot characters and has rockets on it's hands and feet
-Dodrio was shown to Fly by literally scurrying its legs on the air XD
-Pikachu shown to use a balloon to fly, though that still doesn't make sense
-Yeah, strange to see Scyther not flying, especially in Gen 1 when Scizor didn't exist(in which it's explained that it's wings aren't that capable of flying)
-Mantine also confuses me

Yeah. A 3 foot tall butterfly who is a FLYING type can't carry you, but a 1 foot owl with disproportionally tiny wings can.
POKEMON LOGIC!!!

In the Gen 2 remakes the Pokewalker has a route called The Yellow Forest where you can get a Pikachu that knows Surf and one that knows Fly.
The Event one was from Pokemon Yellow, many many years ago.
