Description Quick Note: Yeah.. its not perfect.. but its good for beginners.

Quite a few people have asked me to teach them how to draw. Well you know what? Im just too lazy for that.
And someone else said they didnt understand anatomy, porprortions, the whole "wth is 8 heads".. and the like.
So I got bored. Took a few screenshots and made a tutorial.
Theres your story.

This tutorial just shows how to use the 8 heads. You can also alter the method because A.) I dont remember how I learned it so I just winged it for the tut (lol xD). and b.) there are no RULES in art. Just like the pirates code. Theyre more like.. guidelines .

Things to accomplish:
-Learn how to get an about accurate hight and a width that doesnt look obese or about to snap its so thin.
-Learn how to actually map out the body, then draw details (instead of working head down.).
-Get an idea for the relative sizes and widths of certain areas of the body in relation to several other points at the same time.
-Learning how to draw normal, non mutated, non deformed people with the correct amount of fingers and arms the same length (lol).
-Some other stuff that Im too lazy to list.

There was too much freespace between the 5th and 6th paragraphs so I drew a picture d: its completely unrelated to the tutorial. xD

well. Good luck d:

One last note: To those actually USING this tutorial. You CAN alter the style and length/width of areas of the body. You just have to keep it Proportionate.

I love this! I have the worst time with body anatomy. Faces and clothing are no problem, but it's what those things are connected to is the problem! Thanks!

Thanks! I hope I helped get you on the right path. Its tough when you're learning on your own. Even though its not perfectly drawn, its still my system for drawing today.

for me, the whole "it starts with a circle' really helps, because I need some kind of guide. Drawing is hard, but rewarding, and I know with time I will improve. :] So, thank you for making the guide! it really did help.

Really nice so thanks for sharing .

OMG...thank you! T^T

I've been trying to use guidelines forever now, but I just never got the hang of it...they always looked like cows they were so bulky and fat. D: This helped me so much!

Olivia-94 [2009-04-19 19:32:39 +0000 UTC]

Hmm. I like it, it's a nice tutorials, although I disagree that you used circles and not the actual full length of the head...heh he, maybe that's why my drawing turn out so bad though XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TehLissness In reply to Olivia-94 [2009-04-19 19:49:35 +0000 UTC]

Lmao. I understand. I wrote this 3 years ago, (as if I actually knew what I was talking about.)
Since the head actually ends up being slightly longer than a circle, if you followed the tut exactly its gonna come out looking skewed, for example the shoulders would actually start higher on the second circle than where mine does.
There is really no right way to draw, just whatever you feel comfortable with.

Olivia-94 In reply to TehLissness [2009-04-19 20:12:09 +0000 UTC]

well, overall I think it looked good. I guess I'll just keep on practising in my own way and I guess one day it'll turn out looking right XD
By the way, your artwork is amazing. Are you taking a qualification in art? The realism stuff is cool!

It looks really good!
Not sure if I mentioned this, but another thing that's really good to do to help you improve is to find a photo to reference. Sometimes what I do is find SEVERAL photos, for specific parts of a pose, or for the the clothing/accessories/etc..
Im proud of you!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

emmakiwi In reply to TehLissness [2009-03-24 16:23:23 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I was just suggested this a few days ago and looking at some refrence pictures, I can see that quite a few things are wrong with it..
I will continue to practice and hopefully have improved more!!

Whaaaat lol. Im glad you like it. Is this in reference to the "OMG"? I reread it (after almost 3 years) to see if my foul mouth showed through but I didnt see anything. I can fix it.

EarlyBlake [2008-07-08 18:20:08 +0000 UTC]

Cool I used this already. My figures still look awkward, but they look better. I learned a 7 head rule for adult figures in high school, but I think that was with an oval instead of a circle. And I don't remember the rule for proportions on the oval.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TehLissness In reply to EarlyBlake [2008-07-15 01:11:39 +0000 UTC]

Well whatever I came up with isn't 100% accurate, so you can use really whatever you want to get your style across. Dont worry about getting it perfect either.. your work will always look better if you just go with your gut.
