Description Here is how I made

Many thanks to ~Seridan for the tip on the problem with GPU acceleration

The spotlight gel I used in this render is *Pret-A-3D 's streaks real gel available in the Daz3D marketplace. I modified it and used it's texture as a transparency map in the surfaces tool in Daz Studio 4.

The render get better as the number of samples per pixel increases. It can take a very long time if you have a large image.

Thank you very much for this tutorial. This is the first time I get volumetric lights.
I'm amazed at how you got a perfect lighting with just one spotlight. Mine is too shadowed, but I like the effect. I'll just keep trying. Its great you shared how you do such beautiful images. Thanks!

You are most welcome ^_^

If it seems to dark or shadowed try turning up the gain on the lights tab in lux render.

Excellent!
May I request you for the 'fog' material settings? I've not had too much luck with getting 'streaks' to work.
thanks.

teturo In reply to flyashy [2012-05-21 13:01:27 +0000 UTC]

I just used the default reality fog material settings.

Getting the light ray effect to work seems to be more about the angle of the light relative to the camera.

First thing to make sure of is that hardware acceleration is not enabled.

Second thing is to make sure that the light is behind and above whatever you want to be creating the light ray relative to the camera.

This is a great tutorial (we can never have too many when it comes to fog!), if I can add though, I think the fog beams that are created are dependent on the gel you have used; it may be worth adding a link or the image used for the gel so that it is obvious / usable by anyone trying the tutorial?

But again, its great to share the knowledge! `¬)

Here's another you may like... [link]

which illustrates the same principle `¬) (The alpha map is free to use)

mikiu378 [2012-01-13 04:18:59 +0000 UTC]

any tweaks to the glossy settings of the skin? or was the default values good enough?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

teturo In reply to mikiu378 [2012-01-13 05:56:33 +0000 UTC]

So far I have been satisfied with the glossy default setting for skin textures. For clothing I have used the velvet texture in some cases.

mikiu378 In reply to teturo [2012-01-14 01:24:43 +0000 UTC]

yeah velvet seems to work best for supple clothing. thanks for sharing

cwichura [2012-01-12 21:16:54 +0000 UTC]

I have to admit, the version with the GPU bug looks pretty good as well, though maybe it's just because it's a reduced size for this tutorial montage.

Thanks for the insights.

The version with GPU acceleration is really good but it lacks the cool lighting effect I put so much effort into creating ^_~
