Notes:So, to start things off with this interpretation of the chart, most of the description is no longer on the deviation itself. The unfortunate truth is that this page became way, way too long because the DB franchise never stops adding transformations. There will inevitably be more Saiyan transformations on the horizon, too. They drive merchandise sales.
Anyway, you can now find all the information in this Google Doc: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d…
As always, there's no need to ask about whether I will be including a form or why I haven't added any potential new transformations to the chart. This document will likely be kept up to date with at least acknowledging new forms as they're revealed. However, I will still be waiting for them to fully debut in the their respective media (anime, manga, games, whatever) before deciding what I'm doing with them in regards to the project.

No, you don't need to be in Super Saiyan when you first achieve it, BUT you do need to have transformed into Super Saiyan at least once for the right triggers to be activated. So the earliest he could have becomes a SS4, if he still had a tail, would be the battle with Freeza.

but an interesting factor has been reveled to me...
if a sayain who can go super sayain and still has a tail...then the full moons comes out and turns into a golden ape, can they go ssj4 without having to acsend to ssj2 and 3?
take vegeta for example. bulma used the bluxswave to turn vegeta into an ape again and then went ssj4, and last time i check he could only acsend to lv 2 only.

It isn't an actual Super Saiyan stage. Even in the official franchise's guides, it's been said to only be named "Super Saiyan 4" out of convenience and is actually something entirely different from previous transformations.

Mmm, I always saw Broly's LSSJ form as some sort of SSJ2 variation, rather than just an extreme measure of the mass-increasing power boosting seen in the ascended subforms (as well as in Freeza and Cell); just with green instead of sparks, and with plenty of mass gain and insane screaming and all that. After all, it was triggered by anger and a high power, rather than training on increasing power.

Judging from Paragus' reaction, I doubt the LSS transformation we saw was the first one Broli ever underwent; so we have no idea what triggered it, he was just mad when we saw him use it. Anyway, Broli's Super Saiyan form was already stronger than everyone else, and Vegeta and Trunks were even using Grade 2 themselves. Had Broli's transformation actually be like SS2, our Heroes would have never won, even with a worn out Goku using everyone's powers to deliver a Toei Punch.

That's cool! A while ago I was actually working on a sheet to make sense of all the forms too, though I abandoned that project for now.
I ended up downgrading Super Saiyan 4 to an advanced state of Oozaru; one in which, in Goku and Vegeta's case, the user can throw Super Saiyan powers in the mix if they want. It was meant as a support form, to help the body cope with the stress that comes from Super Saiyan 3.
Otherwise, I just really don't see the Super Saiyan element in this form. XD
Of course, it also meant I had to change the name. Heh.

This is a very helpful description of the various states that a Saiyan can reach. I definitely like your description of the Super Saiyan 4. Just one thing: the Super Saiyan 4 can be reached when a Saiyan is both in his/her Super Saiyan state and has transformed into an Oozaru? I'm just trying to make sure I properly understand it because it's clear that you have put A LOT of time and planning into this and I want to fully understand it myself.

To reach the form, the Saiyan has to have kept their tail (or regrown it) and transformed into a Super Saiyan at least once before in their life, triggering the gene to make the form "active" in their DNA.
The form itself is highly spiritual, as it is all about balance and harmony, making it nearly impossible for ancient Saiyans to reach it. Though not always active, the Super Saiyan and Oozaru traits are within them, deep, deep down. There are 4 ways to attempt the transformation for the first time:

lol I'm more used to seeing grade 2's. I forgot all about grade 1's or 3's. But out of all of these, I think the false one is the most interesting for some reason! ・ ω ・
And dang it, now I feel the need to practice drawing ssj's. xDD This will be a helpful reference though, heheh!!!
Also, dayum, super oozaru's must be totally OP. I bet it's takes a loooot of work for an individual to reach that level though.

Are you sure Toriyama doesn't usually draw grade 2? Cuz a lot of the ones on his artbook (This one: [link] I have one back at home) seem like they're grade 2. Maybe I'm wrong but seriously, judging from how their arms are drawn, I swear they are grade 2.

And yeahh I agree. I guess they were so focused on the stereotypical ssj form(blonde hair, green eyes, blahblah) that they forgot about the false one. :/

Naw, Grade 2 barely lasted like a volume. Remember Goku said that the regular state is best for fighting, because the graded forms drain ki too fast and grade 3 specifically has crazy speed loss. The muscles may look like Grade 2 to you thanks Mr. Brid Moutain's artistic evolution, but they are definitely regular Super Saiyans in almost all the artwork, though there are a couple of Grade 2 pieces in there from while it was the next "most awesome thing since sliced bread" I think.
That's why I get to have fun. I'm going to enjoy using these things in ways the franchise didn't, like having Gohan turn False SS before regular SS and having him snap at Goku in the RoSaT.
Seriously, Super Oozaru generally isn't going to be something you train for or be all that difficult to achieve. So long as you're a Super Saiyan and still have a tail, it's more than likely just going to happen after you transform (Goku in GT)...unless you can actually control yourself as an Oozaru, then you'll have to trigger it yourself (Vegeta in GT) lol

Like the overall thought process behind this Super Saiyan hierarchy. Nice job! The subtraction of Broli's "LSSj" form seems to be something of an aesthetic difference if you just swapped that form for one of the bulkier ones. Is Son Goku and Gohan's "Full Powered Super Saiyan" state still applicable to your fan redux? I loved that idea in the original story and it shows how great a fighting strategist Son Goku is. Yet really it was less a separate form in itself then a well trained SSj grade 1.

That's all it is really. I'm glad someone understands that too, as there would be no reason for even the Broli fanboys to rant about how I've ruined him or anything. All of the "Legendary" Super Saiyan's special properties are still in tact, they are just unique to Broli himself and not some stupid form that served no purpose but to confuse a fanbase. lol The change is nothing more than a slight aesthetic shift; no green hair tint (which they already did in movie 10) and he'll retain his pupils most of the time. ...eh, and while I don't really want to shrink him, maybe not quite as tall since none of the others gain height with those forms.

i like how you redefined the idea behind super saiyan 4 as a separate transformation on its own since it really didn't behave like any of the other super saiyan transformations, although i never liked how it replaced super saiyan three since that was my favorite form lol

It's based off official statements in guidebooks saying that the form was only named level 4 out of convince and that it's okay to think that it is something else entirely. I just made the separation clear, along with some tweaks... ^^
