My entry for the Angry Video Game Nerd versus Nostalgia Critic contest.This was a nice little distraction. I was going to draw them anyway, but now that they're having a contest, it was the perfect excuse to do it.
The concept of the contest is pretty basic. Create a poster for the upcoming "final battle" between the Angry Video Game Nerd and the Nostalgia Critic . I initially wanted to do a really wide shot with their outlines standing across an empty plane, with these detailed shots mixed with the background, but then I got lazy and went for the generic explosion background.
To those who were eagerly awaiting the next ~InspectorIroh page, this is why it is delayed. Don't worry. I'll get to it.

I was watching the Final Battle this morning and paused for a second because I noticed a poster with familiar art style. And now I've found it was done by one of my favorite brony artists. What a great surprise!

Awesome work! Love your art style and you did an epic job with the facial details (which I think can really make or break a portrait). Looks exactly like both of them. And you did great with coloring and shading too.
I can't rightly say who I think would win such a battle - this would make a great Deadliest Warrior episode, methinks.

Honestly, I think if they were to battle... I think both would lose at the same time.
I'm not saying their both bad, definitely not. But their both so good that neither can win and neither can lose. Their both just too good to win.

Personally, I like the Nerd better.
Most of the Critic's videos are hit-or-miss. There are several Critic videos that I can't watch because of how awful the subject matter is, and he gets too carried away in his character and gimmicks (if you ask me, "Kickassia" and "You're a Rotten Dirty Bastard" were both wastes of time).
Not to mention, I still hold a grudge against the Critic's "fanbase" (read: army of stubborn ass-kissers who will humiliate and destroy anyone not agreeing with them).
The Nerd, on the other hand, has more consistent quality. Almost all of his videos are good, and the videos that I can't stand to watch are a minority. And doing monthly videos was a stroke of genius (the whole "leaving them wanting more" mentality). Also, he doesn't get carried away in his character. Very few of his videos are "gimmick" videos, he mostly sticks to what people want to see.
And I have no problem with the Nerd's fanbase. I don't exactly see the Nerd's fans as the kind of people who would bully someone just because that someone didn't like a certain animated movie that everyone else loved.

Such as in this picture, I don't really have a preference for either of these guys. I may be leaning towards the Critic at times, but never to the point of obnoxious fan boy levels.
I like both for their respective styles of reviewing, they're hard to compare in the sense that they review different things in radically different styles. It's true, the Critic's stuff is hit and miss, but his rate of new content is much higher. I actually enjoyed the whole Kickassia thing, it was silly and epic in a highly cheesy way.
The nerd is more consistent, that's very true. There is actually something soothing about it, a certain familiarity.

This picture is amazing. The lighting is spot on, and the AVGN giving the Nostalgia critic the bird, while using The Power Glove (it's so bad!) is a great idea. Hope you win!

In retrospective, I do realize that my choice of his hair color was incorrect, but not entirely unjustified. I wanted to have his hair reflect on his nerdyness by using light colors in contrast with the Nostalgia Critic's overall darker appearance.
The reference I used showed him with lighter hair than the Nostalgia Critic, which appeared to be blonde-dark-brown-ish. I'm going to change it to a more brown-ish color, so thanks for pointing this out.
