Description "Io non ti amo come fossi rosa di sale, o topazio,
o la freccia cremisi che il fuoco scocca.
Ti amo come certe cose oscure siano da essere amate,
in segreto, fra l'ombra e l'anima."

Upon meeting someone new Io will speak the lines in their entirety and in a questioning way. The sharp eared among the patients might recognize the language as being Italian, but it is unwise to say anything in Italian to Io. It has been known to cause him to become extremely excitable, and physical violence may be required to calm him down.

Side effects of ECT can include muscle soreness, confusion, and mild to moderate memory loss. The memory loss is mostly limited to events just prior the ECT treatment, although occasionally older memories can be lost as well. However, it's been known to snap someone out of a severe depression.

Io's age is unlisted, as physically he could possibly be anywhere between 14 and 28 years of age.

Io does not eat meat, and very rarely will ingest egg or dairy products. He mostly subsists off of what he tends to in the Gardens, and in fact he is wary of eating anything grown outside of the asylum.

It might take him a while, but he would eventually realize you're just repeating him. Then he'd become as annoyed as anyone else does when they're being parroted.

What if you repeated what he said in english? I ran it through google translator and he appears to say this:
"I do not love you like I'm pink salt, or topaz,
or Crimson arrow-fire body.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul. "

He wouldn't react to it any differently than anything else said in English, since he still can't understand what's being said. Technically he doesn't understand it in Italian either, but he recognizes the sounds as being familiar.

So, Io speaks to people, and when others speak he hears gibberish... Does he realize that they can't understand him? Is his talking more for his own benefit, something he does instinctively, or because he believes that they could understand him?

TheDemonSurfer In reply to Tiger-Of-The-Tundra [2011-07-11 05:30:23 +0000 UTC]

Io is aware that people cannot understand him, as their blank reactions to his talking is enough proof. So for the most part his talking is for his own benefit as he still wants to communicate and be friendly.

As the creator of the man I give voice to, is there anything else I can learn about him, like, when he speak, does he use any kind of inflection? Heh, I just wana give him the best voice possible and I'm sure I missed some stuff in my audition ^^U

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheDemonSurfer In reply to DarkAztect [2011-05-20 00:31:22 +0000 UTC]

Io's inflection is the same as if he were speaking regularly and not repeating the same two sentences over and over. It's like he's speaking his own language, but there are only a few words in it XDD He'll ask questions, give directions, and carry on a conversation. The words he uses are just the same for everything XDD

I think Io will be good for my character. She's going to be quite timid and a little sad most times, so hopefully he can cheer her up.

I love this guy! One of the main reasons I decided to start following INK actually. He's so unique; there are lots of parts of him that remind me of other characters but at the same time he has a feel to him that is completely his own.

I get the feeling that if I were in INK, Io would be the one I would hang around all the time. :3 Can't wait to see more of him. Wish I had the time and the materials to enter.

SolarCarol [2011-04-17 02:40:53 +0000 UTC]

I apperently figured out it's italian, but just wondering-can you talk italian back to him?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheDemonSurfer In reply to SolarCarol [2011-04-17 14:26:08 +0000 UTC]

You can, but he won't be able to understand any of it. He can't understand spoken words at all no matter what the language.

However, if he hears Italian then he will become very excited as he can tell that the sounds are similar to the ones he says. He will follow the character around and speak his own two lines over and over at them. The only way to make him stop and go away is to threaten violence.

Question: Can he understand spoken words at all? And will he eat food if offered? O.O

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheDemonSurfer In reply to RubyRedux [2011-04-15 07:30:27 +0000 UTC]

Nope, not a word. To him it sounds like gibberish. He's very good at picking up on tone of voice though, since he can't understand the meaning of the words themselves.

He will eat food if offered, but only if it's not meat. He also might be a bit suspicious of anything that didn't come from the gardens.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RubyRedux In reply to TheDemonSurfer [2011-04-15 21:11:05 +0000 UTC]

Ah cool, thank you thank you a bunch! Also If someone were to be against the idea of getting ECT or terrified of it, will Io still go to all lengths to administer treatment? And (should my character ever get in a mess) how does the ECT process go? I've looked it up, but it's a tad confusing

... and are those socks or shoes?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheDemonSurfer In reply to RubyRedux [2011-04-15 21:19:07 +0000 UTC]

Well it's not like you could tell Io not to use ECT on you, as he couldn't understand. Actually freaking out and fighting back will probably convince him that you need it even more.

ECT is administered by first injecting the patient with a muscle relaxant. The patient then gets a general anesthetic to spare them from the uncomfortable feelings of suffocation associated with muscle relaxants. Then the electrodes are hooked up to the head and a current is ran through them until a seizure is induced, which is the goal of the therapy. The seizure usually lasts less than 30 seconds.

And they're socks XDD I have no idea where his shoes are

Does he have a nose?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheDemonSurfer In reply to stevenater [2011-04-15 02:43:05 +0000 UTC]

It depends on the artist. I don't draw him with a nose or ears, but if you're used to drawing them then go right ahead.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

stevenater In reply to TheDemonSurfer [2011-04-15 02:51:22 +0000 UTC]

Sure, i'm just not sure if he is supposed to be human or just humanoid, if he was drawn intentionally without cause he doesnt have any.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheDemonSurfer In reply to stevenater [2011-04-15 03:01:52 +0000 UTC]

Well, I'm not 100% sure myself if it's just a style choice or if he's actually missing a nose, but I know that some artists prefer drawing characters in a more realistic style. Therefore I won't pitch a fit or anything if you decide that you want to give him a nose

I have a character who... doesn't seem to always understand personal space. She's very quick to hug people, when frightened or when happy. How does Io react to spontaneous hugs?

TheSharpness [2011-03-05 20:19:10 +0000 UTC]

When you say he can only speak a few words from the phrase if he wants [but not out of order], do you mean he could say something like say "Rosa di sale, o topazio" or must every sentance start with "Io non ti-"

This is such a minor question but it has clearly been bugging me enough to ask heh.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheDemonSurfer In reply to TheSharpness [2011-03-05 20:27:05 +0000 UTC]

He can start wherever he like in the sentence, as long as the words aren't out of order. He also doesn't have to say EVERY word. So, for example, he could say "Freccia il fuoco e l'anima", as the words are still in order even if it's not all the words.

TheDemonSurfer In reply to Marco-Pato [2011-03-05 16:24:25 +0000 UTC]

If by supporting character you mean he was created solely for Ink, then no. Io has his own back story that I adapted for use as a judge.

TheDemonSurfer In reply to Marco-Pato [2011-03-07 15:45:11 +0000 UTC]

Err.....

Okay. Io Non is a character of mine that has had his back story adapted for use in Ink. He was a preexisting character, not one that was created solely for use with the tournament.
