I went for many years to the manipulation of photos and messing about in that way and then very recently I thought why am I doing this when I can paint and so I have returned to it and I am having the time of my life.I hadnt painted for about 12 years and now I have done 9 paintings in less than 1 month!!

I hope to see more of this work of yours - it is magnificent and gifts like this should be used x

well everything you just said i can really relate to!!!!!!. my last drawings was 8-9 years ago and i switched to Computer graphics then on to photography. Now the learning curves dropping off for the camera
i have thought about drawing again, especially one of my own photographs, that would be interesting. Sounds like you looks like you are enjoying your painting, i did most of my drawings in a one year period.
i need that desire. thankyou again for all the encouragment

Suddenly my desire came back - it was as if I had painted myself out somehow - it felt like there was nothing to paint any more after I had painted solid for 1 year too - God the identification I am getting with you!!

I have done bits of photography - then mending photos and then manipulation of them - I was getting frustrated and there was no where else to go with it - then I bought a Wacom drawing tablet and as soon as I got used to it I was off again - now 9 paintings in one month!!
I dont have the room here to paint - I used to have a spare room where I could leave my oils out etc., so digital painting suits me down to the ground although I amy go back to traditional methods - I can feel the urge coming on so I will have to get around the space thing somehow I think x

I can see so many similrities to Art!!!!!!!! the most striking is the length of time you left it out to
come back and still be able to do it and improve its something i've just discovered too. i must
finish this owl portrait. When i saw your Tawney Owl painting, i instantly saw my unfished eagle owl in my head LOL that painting gives me butterflys fantastic painting. I can imagine the buzz
you got when you put the last stroke and sat back for the first time and took in what you had created. sounds like your on a roll 9 paintings in a month, i did most of my portraits in a year
aswell, no doubt your on a high with it so don't stop!!!!!!!!!!

I cried when I finished the fox - I just was so moved by the whole experience and it was a wonderful feeling to know I could still paint after all those years - I hope you do finish your owl - I will watch out for it - so strange how we have walked similar paths with this, isnt it!

I can relate to those feelings, when i finished my Niomi drawing i was on a high for quite a while I can't say when i will finish the owl drawing, i wish i could. thats whats botheres me the most
not being able to or feel like being able to draw on demand. i get asked so much by friends and family to draw for them and they don't get it when i say im not in the mood LOL.

I cleaned windows this morning and thought you are like a naughty child who just wont get on today - and here I am typing messages rather than painting for this hour that I set aside for it - so now I am going to paint - that is it!!
No more messing today!!

Im thinking the same on my image, i'm certainly going to finish it. I think of my drawing as a emotional roller coaster, lots of slow daunting climbs followed by the exhilerating twists and turns and the elation when its finished and of course the points where you want to get off LOL

I'll have to try it - maybe I am missing something!

I am trying to speed up my painting - to do it quicker - my poor long suffering husband would love to think we might make some money from this art work that I do - that is never my goal - in fact money is that nasty stuff I dont concern myself too much with - although I do like to spend it - to arty in that respect really tha tis a defect of character!
All it seems to do is cost us money as I restock and dont use it!
Ohwell - maybe this time it will be different........................... LOL

THEDOC4 In reply to Lynne-Abley-Burton [2007-09-26 16:11:40 +0000 UTC]

Give it a try, i find classical music fantastic when im in a creative mood, Katherine Jenkins, Enya, Mike oldfield very mellow sounds and beautiful reflecting what im trying to reproduce really. And the money thing
im exactly the same, its just a paper equasion we all get by on, it doesn't make me happy, what i can get with it can but i get my happiness from what i achieve!!!!not the money. I get quite sick of people telling me
im wasted wherever i end up working when they see my work. they look at me gone out when i tell them i do it for pleasure and i don't want to pollute it with bringing money into the equasion. but saying that
my partner Sarah has free reign to do what ever she like with my work and she is finding avenues to get something from it. But i have no interest in that other than it helps pay the bills.

Lynne-Abley-Burton In reply to THEDOC4 [2007-09-26 19:21:50 +0000 UTC]

Wow! we are the same again!!
People do the same with me cos I am not interested in the money side of it - Nick my long suffering wonderful husband is a very good earner and very good at bringing money home and cant understand me when I say it isnt always about money - I just like to draw - but even then those years without painting reinforce the fact that people thing I should just do it and earn.

I was self employed for a lot of years doing art - portraits and such but just went right off it - I was doing well and had quite a following and selling well but I went through a real lowmpoint on my life and couldnt continue with it all - the time I was having showed in my paintings in the last exhibition I had (22 years ago) - they were dark and dismal and I didnt sell anything - it just knocked my end in and I stopped.
Then there was a block lasting about 7 years - after that passed I painted again solid for about 1 year and tried to pick up where I left off but the market had changed - photography had develooped and there was the canvas portrait photo there and i couldnt find a market any more - then I had the last block and now I am painting just for me - no-one else!!
Thanks for putting up with my ramblings LOL

yes i can relate to everything you say and experience with your Artwork. I try to explain to people i can't just switch it on like i clock in and start work LOL. Mood and frame of mind is everything to me to put
pencil to paper, its clear its the same for you. if i was to make money out of drawing i would be on about 2pence a hour how long it takes me LOL. I got into the computer GFX aswell as soon as home computers
got the power and software to create things not possible with conventional methods. funny how i never get that same heigh like drawing though, another thing is i can show people very complcated animations
i've done that have took months if not years and they always finish off by staring at my pencil drawings on the walls and rave about them. i think with CG films and effects reaching there max people seem to be turning to
good old fashion pure art translated through the eye/hand/paper which they can instantly recognise as Art. I like you do everything for me and my personal challenge and enjoyment. its a plus if people
like it but its always my own challenge

Lynne-Abley-Burton In reply to THEDOC4 [2007-09-27 16:38:42 +0000 UTC]

It is the same with my art work- they are not as made up with manips - but draw something and they are off - not complaining mind you!
The trouble with canvas with oils or pastel is that paintings Traditional take me so long so I am interested to see how long this takes with acryllics - I have been known to work for weeks on paintings in the past and you cant possibly price them up - the digital dont take so long at all but they only print out small - A4 being the biggest size really so it is no wonder it is quicker really.
Acryllic paints are a bit strange but maybe I will get used to them!!!!!! LOL

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

THEDOC4 In reply to Lynne-Abley-Burton [2007-09-29 11:21:35 +0000 UTC]

Yes Art is art, its not worth putting time limits and prices on it for myself. I have had a dabble with every medium going really, even airbrushing which i enjoyed, but CS has killed that off for sure.
i personally like watercolours to use when painting for the ease and speed at which i can work. Acriyllic i like too. the main reason i stay away from colour painting is im colour blind LOL.
hence pencil and camera's not a problem.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lynne-Abley-Burton In reply to THEDOC4 [2007-09-29 11:43:39 +0000 UTC]

YOU ARE COLOUR BLIND!!!Are you having me on!!!!!

Wow!! I can ap[preciate that must make things very difficult as a painter - I cannot do watercolours at all - I am too heavy handed for it and I have never tried airbrushing either.

I have just been messing with watercolour pencils and then I am putting acryillic on top this morning and I have nejoyed yself - I do like acryllics - it is the first time I have used them and they seen quick and easy - drying quick too on the paper.
The trouble with duigital paintingis that there is no original painting at all - really no value if we were to talk about money!

I was a bit upset earlier - you know how we can be delicate about our abilities as artists and how critical I get of my own work anyway so I hardly need anyone to disect it for me and pull it to bits in a negative way but that is what I have had in the comments on Looking Cute - I didnt react at first - this person is a good artist themselves so I really couldnt get my head round another artist doing this to me - anyway I have reacted today by a comment and also a note in which I told this person I was removing my watch and asking him to do the same from his end - I had been really friendly before this - strange isnt it!!
Sorry to whinge ot you but I thought you would understand x

THEDOC4 In reply to Lynne-Abley-Burton [2007-09-29 19:49:36 +0000 UTC]

HaHa oh yes most people always do a double take LOL when they find out. well its a strange one really what is being colour blind? it seems to be just what the minority of us labelled colour blind see really. its quite crazy really people can only imagine what we see but everything seems fine to me LOL no yellow clouds or green tigers. probably why i stick to pencils becaurse im aware of it, but nobodys ever said anything about my paintings
so it can't be significant difference really.
I have tried acyllics and like them especially with watercolours, i know what you mean about digital art and no original. I do other forms of digital artwork i enjoy though. Skinning, i don't know if you are familiar with the term but its a image that will be wrapped around a 3D model eg. Racing Car/Aircraft/people/etc.etc basically what you paint/sample is transfered onto model, faces on heads, car colourschemes and sponcors. i've seen
people from all over the world using my online game skins. I also repair photographs which i really enjoy, scan in a damaged original and resampe parts of the original and a bit of freehand to repair for a reprint. here's one
i did.[link] HHHHMMM the guy who ripped your work, well i have been on DA for a quite few years now and see and read a lot of comments. Me personally i just say thankyou.
its there opinion and theyre free to give it. what they probably want is to draw attention to themselves by saying something they know will insust someone. i've had some odd notes sent over the years LOL
like we have said nobody is more aware of faults than the artist themselves.

Well your paintings are fabulous in their colouring so it doesnt affet them at all that way - I dont really understand what being cpolour blind means - how it affects you?

I had fun with the acylics today - I dont know if what I have done will end up with anything presentable but it is a beginning back into traditional so it is ok.
Nice job on the photo - I used to do the photo repairs too - very similar to what you have done there- I had a web site called photo-magic but it never really got off the ground cos there was so many of us doing it - but I have similar work to your link tucked away on here somewhere - I like repairing photos - it is nice to do them for people when it is an old precious one and to see their faces when it is mended is worth the world.
I wish I hadnt reacted to that person who pulled my work apart now - I believe all they wanted was a fight and I am not here for that - it is learning on DA isnt it - I havent been here that long - my instints said ignore - ignore - ignore and I did - and then I reacted!! LOL
How long have you been on here now then?

glad you liked the repair!!! i really enjoy them, love the challenge and like you point out its worth it when you see there faces you you hand back something that is usually very precious.
a very rewarding challenge i love doing. Me i think its 4 years now, i vary how much on but im always knocking about. Yes my policy is just ignore it, or better laugh at it. these people
