Thankyou! that was taken with a 70-200mm lens i cant remember exactly but around the 105mm mark
as i got him coming in closer and closer.

WOW! Im a bird keeper at a zoo and I seem to spend all my time arguing with the mammal keepers about why birds are not boring, theyre beautiful. This pictures backs up my argument wonderfully ^_^ I absolutely love it.

cheers!!!!=yes cracking birds, i struggle to understand why most people don't like them. I had a cracking 4-5 months getting to know this bird.
it started off slowly at first getting his trust, and me getting closer and closer being able to capture more and more shots that wouldn't
really be possible. This is one of my last shots of him actually as they are busy building nest and the like. But like you point out, the attitude
is there, as much as he trusts me he would keep letting me know who was really running the show.

Yes the colours of magpies are wonderfull, i used the snow to bounce the light to reveal what would have been
dark shaded area's.

only problem with photography it never shows what was involved before getting the shot, it only reflects that split second.
And for me its the moments trying and leading up to it which are just as enjoyable.
