This was quite a good story. The whole thing with Saru made me a little upset at first because I thought he was really going to die. He is my favorite character in this show next to Number One. But you can't kill plot armorΒ Β

I loved this episode. I think the Discovery writers are finally getting there and this is just great Star Trek. I hope we get more episodes with this level of writing. Fantastic job as always!!

Indeed!
And it's slowly tying things to TOS, such as Pike ordering the chief engineer to remove the holocommunicator from the Enterprise, as it seems to be a security threat. Also, small concepts such as coming across a vast alien database are pure TOS.

Agreed, I love that he hated the thing. I also like the Saru part of the story. I think he is one interesting character that deserves a fair amount of attention and this episode he certainly got it. Keep up the awesome work my friend

Beautiful Job!!!Β
Β I thought this episode had a great classic Trek feeling with the sphere stopping the Discovery to transmit its legacy info felt like an homage to TNGβs βThe Inner Lightβ. Plus, we now have a canon explanation for why the spore drive and the holograms were not seen in future Trek shows; it was also cool to see Rebecca Romijn play Majel Roddenberryβs best character, Number One. Β
Β But what I love most isΒ Saruβs story as the first Kelpien to enter Starfleet; his story resonates so much with viewers, particularly those who are considered minorities in America and Canada. From Saruβs journey as a refugee to his ascension through the ranks of Starfleet, Saru mentioned something that a lot of us people of colorΒ can relate to: the feeling that you have to hide parts of yourself and your culture to assimilate.Β Β
Β Hopefully the haters are running out of things to complain about.Β Β Β

I was wondering: what if the Ba'Ul are the next stage of Kelpien life. That the "culled" Kelpiens are simply taken away to live as Ba'Ul and not actually eaten.

Interesting theory theΒ "Kelpian" is Stage 1 for their life cycle and "Ba'ul" is Stage 2 and for some reason Stage 2 doesn't want Stage 1 to find this out.Β I like that and what if a well meaning Saru does something about it, and makes things worse, reinforcing the need for the prime directive; makes me want to rewatch Saru's Short Trek.Β

If this entity knows everything than a conversation with it would be very interesting indeed; though telling all it knows would probably take much longer than a human lifetime. I am sure that it wouldn't lack for listeners once word got out.
