And I think Pinochet threw people other than commies out of his helicopters, even if I'm not an expert on Chilean history.

Yup. Governments powerful enough to give you everything you need are powerful enough to take away everything you have-in this case, your very life.

First time I heard of the guy. Went and googled it, and it's amazing (though also tragic) to know there was somebody who actually FORCED "free markets", and hated communists despite doing kind of the whole evil dictator thing that makes that so infamous. :/ This certainly isn't a guy I've seen an-caps cheer for, but then again I'm not exactly too into that side of politics, and I can imagine a few loons championing this guy as some sort of anti-hero. However he apparently stepped down under a democratic vote, so there's that bit that's weirdly respectable despite his forceful nature prior.

If you want some real good irony I managed to quickly find, this guy apparently died on Humans Rights Day, but then again Fidel Castro died on this guy's birthday. Welp, thanks for encouraging me to read up on this stuff.

When the free market is forced, it isn't really free anymore, plus what he did to the political opposition was wrong and violated basic human rights. Β Not only that, these Neo-Con idiots treat this guy like an angel, and say that he did nothing wrong. Β It shows that they surely lack intellience because anyone can google "Chilen History," and see what Pinochet did to his own people. Β But yeah, he did step down, which is the only respectable thing he did. But Allende wasn't any better, as he had ties to communist groups, but when the CIA intervened, Chile went out of the frying pan and into the fire so to speak. Β

P.S. Β It's kind of a funny irony that Latin American dictators always die on days that commemorate things that they fought against and resented.

Same here. Interestingly enough, while the first trailer suggested that the Nazis were relying on their fighters to pick off the Allied soldiers to avoid endangering/wasting tanks, apparently in real life it was due to the Heer (the Third Reich's Army; the term "Wehrmacht" applied to all of Nazi Germany's conventional forces, including the Kriegsmarine) and Luftwaffe trying to one up each other or something. Considering how totalitarians are, in general, prone to stabbing their own supposed allies in the back (with the Nazis being particularly infamous for that, and Stalin's USSR not being too far behind whenever they didn't get their act together), that kind of crap wouldn't surprise me.

Also, according to TV Tropes, apparently the Imperial Japanese Army had their own meth factory, while the Soviets used vodka at the Eastern Front while the Nazis pumped their soldiers up on meth and other experimental drugs.

That would actually explain a lot about the Wehrmacht (which apparently was pretty awful on its own even if the Schutzstaffel was undoubtedly worse), the IJA, and the Soviets.

Alpha-12 In reply to ghostraptor1917 [2017-07-15 14:19:58 +0000 UTC]

Yup. Apparently the IJA at least wanted its soldiers on meth so they'd be more likely to commit war crimes, and one need only take a brief glance at the Battle of Stalingrad (now known as Volgograd, which apparently got changed under Khrushchev) to see how brutal the Eastern Front could get. Evidently two very evil dictators with mustaches didn't want their henchmen to give up (in fact, Hitler's incompetence was one of the reasons the Western Allies stopped trying to assassinate him, and Stalin's crap actually bit the USSR in the ass before he decided to hold off on backstabbing his commanders if only so that they could push back the Germans).

On a different note, you interested at all in Detroit: Become Human? I probably won't be able to play it due to lack of a PS4 or time nowadays, but it revolves around androids in a futuristic Detroit developing sentience and seems like it'll be interesting, especially due to how things change if you make certain decisions.

Indeed. What do you think of universal basic income? It sounds good on paper (basically just cut every citizen a check and not waste money on redundant government programs and bureaucracy), but it could be a bit too expensive even by the standards of the American government. Granted, with McDonald's robots, we may end up having to figure out some way to keep the money flowing.
