Description The Order of the Ancestor Moth is a very old Cyrodilic monastic order dedicated to a form of ancestor worship that is deeply tied to the insects known as Ancestor Moths, from which the monks weave cloth from the enchanted silk these moths produce. During special ceremonies, the silk is imbued with a song that contains memories of the souls of departed ancestors. The monks are also the only people allowed by Imperial Law to read the mystical Elder Scrolls, works of scripture that transcend time and sometimes even space.

I tried to collect many of the attributes of the moth priests in this piece. So, we have two blind moth priests, of course. Repeated reading of the Elder Scrolls robs the monks of their sight for longer and longer periods of time until their final reading leaves them both with a deep understanding of the scroll they are reading and with permanent blindness. Then we have their Katanas and the Draw Knife used during a ceremony in which bark of the Canticle Tree is carefully removed, which attracts the Ancestor Moths, which in turn will help reading one of the Elder Scrolls. Speaking of: Lots and lots of moths. I made them roughly as they appear in Skyrim. We also, of course, have two crossed Elder Scrolls below the shield. And above I chose the Amulet of Kings, because the Order has a strong relationship with the Septim Dynasty, or the Cyrodiilic Emperors more broadly. The Elder Library, where all the Elder Scrolls collected over the eons are stored, is housed in the Imperial Palace in Cyrodiil, the seat of power of the Septim Emperors. The knowledge gleamed from the scrolls is also used to advise the Emperor, and - although this is my headcanon - since the Elder Scrolls are deeply connected to time, I thought it only fitting to include the symbol of power given to the Emperors of Man directly by Akatosh, the Dragon God of Time.

Moth priests are under-appreciated. They sacrifice their life to read potentially deadly scrolls that can blind a person, or make them insane. The moth priests deserve more recognition!

Also they are just fucking badasses. I mean they are old blind men with katanas that will absolutley school your ass if you provoke them. I remember what a nightmarish hellscape that Thieves Guild quest was where you had to break into their monestary, sneaking around those blind fuckers in a damp dark cave. And lore-wise even with out swords they can absolutly murder you with their bare hands because of course they know Cyrodiilic Kung Fu on top of that
