Koopa Squad Bio

Koopa Squad General background

Koopa Squad was at one point a very respected squad in Bowsers army, first formed after the events of Super Mario 3 for the sole purpose of taking Mario down, it comprised of a number of Koopas who fought Mario and lived to tell the tale later. The squad itself has battled Mario before in the events of Mario World and beyond though with different members and they never disclose their squad name in battle. The members always refer to themselves as a Greek letter Alpha, Beta, Delta, Theta, Omega and so on. So far the squad has gone through several members who were either killed in action or who left voluntarily to go to other squads not wanting to face Mario face to face again. Recently the squad has been going downhill with its members becoming more and more incompetent. The recent bunch is the lowest point in the squads history.

Alpha (Red Shell)

The self professed leader of the Squad. Alpha became leader following a disastrous attack on Green Thunder which put most of the squad in hospital and the later disappearance of Omega meant Alpha became a permanent leader. Alpha is the one who comes up with most of the plans and schemes the squad does in the name of Bowser, unfortunately they are often ill thought out and never go according to plan. He pushes the two remaining members of the squad to make the squad great again but in reality the other two hardly put the effort in.

He was assigned to the squad after the events of Super Mario 3 when his ego got the better of him while he was showing off and didn’t see the shell Mario had kicked at the line of Goomba’s and Koopas he was in. He was knocked out but later recovered.

Beta (Blue shell)

The laid back, lazy one, Beta is always trying to talk out of doing a plan or job, partly because he knows the plans never work, partly because he’s just bone idle. He was assigned to the squad for surviving Mario during the events of Super Mario 64, but what no one realised was he survived because he spent all this time asleep in his shell.

Between the events of Mario and Luigi: The Mask, and the first saga in Mario and Sonic Adventures his laziness has caused him to put on a few pounds.

Theta (Green Shell)

Theta has survived every battle against Mario you could think of, from Mario Bros, to Super Mario Bros all the way to New Super Mario bros and more. For this he was given a position on Koopa Squad. However being constantly bashed on the head, kicked around and was once swallowed by Yoshi during Mario World and survived the experience to be expelled days later didn’t help his frame of mind.

His brain is very childlike and doesn’t see things the same way as others do, he’ll often make a comment that shows his comedic ignorance or will say something in a literal sense, for example in chapter 6 he talked about rubbing his fireman, Alpha and Beta took this as an innuendo but Theta was honestly talking about wiping dirt off an action figure.

However sometimes Thetas simplistic view of the world sometimes leads him to a conclusion or solution to a problem neither Alpha or Beta think of. But no matter the task Theta will always give 110%, but unfortunately it won't necessary progress the task he's given.

Omega (Black Shell)

The leader of Koopa Squad before Alpha, he was described as the most competent member of the current squad. However after running into Green Thunder on a miss-adventure the entire squad was left in the medical wing and Omega was left in casts for months to recover from the experience. He later disappeared after the mysterious creature calling himself Ouroboros took him to create the bulky, indestructible creature called Tor Vault.

Delta (Yellow Shell)

Little is known of Delta except that during the night after the attack by Green Thunder he went to bed dreading his squads punishment later, to listening to Wendy Koopa sing. While sleeping his body was hijacked by a ghost snake and Delta was killed from the inside by the mysterious creature who called himself Ouroboros, who then took control of his decaying body as his own.

Inspiration

I actually created these three guys by accident, they were written in as koopas who were going to try to attack Luigi just after transforming into Green Thunder and that was going to be it. But after writing them I realised I had a version of the three stooges who could work as repeating characters who I usually put in to provide some extra gags or jokes.

A lot of my inspiration for their personalities comes from a mixture of sources, from the BBC shows Last of the Summer Wine, Only Fools and Horses and even the popular web series Red vs Blue. Theta was heavily influenced from ignorent/idiot characters of those three shows.

I made them look like generic Koopas partly because I created them early in the sprite series and didn't want to make special sprites for them, yet at the same time could be any koopa that appears in a Mario game.

I should make mention that the sprites used here are created by Nintendo not be my btw, I just edited them into the picture.
