Argle. Bargle. Where to start? Well, I guess I’ll mention we were without power for 27ish hours again. I’m not complaining, I kind of like it when that happens (I don’t like listening to what my kids have to say about the situation, though). It’s like camping, and I love camping. But anyway, due to that, I didn’t really do any studio stuff yesterday, which stunk. No lighting for some of the non-digital stuff I planned, and I wanted to preserve iPad battery as I wasn’t sure how long we were going to be out (the snow storm took out more trees and limbs, which took out more power lines). Instead, I read a studio adjacent book, Unnatural Talent by Jason Brubaker (creator of ReMIND, among other fantastic graphic novels). It’s a book about making a living as an independent comic creator (which he is). Some of the information may be a little out dated (since things change so rapidly and it’s several years old at this point), but there was still a lot of good information in there. Some stuff I’ve already figured out, some stuff that isn’t quite relevant for me, and some good ideas to think about and dig deeper into. I really appreciated his section on Kickstarter, for one.

Today, I took advantage of the fresh snow on a weeknight and went snowboarding. Awesome conditions, not much crowding. It was great.

So, what I’m getting at, is I haven’t generated much art in a few days, which is frustrating. What’s even more frustrating is when I sat down to do so, I chose to continue searching for my rendering style. I just don’t know what I’m aiming at at the moment. It’s all so vague in my Brain. I ditched the paint texture for the moment and focused on paper textures, pencil shading, and water color shading. As usual, there are things I like, and things I don’t. I like the aforementioned paint textures, but I can’t seem to figure out how to incorporate them. I have some thoughts about how to mix everything together, but so far I’ve failed to find the ideal combination that makes sense and I can repeat consistently. I kind of want to scream. The search continues, I guess.
