So here's something a little almost kinda different... we've got a shark mer jumping out of the water. The splash thing under him was making me unhappy, so I just adjusted the size of the image abit, and dropped it off completely. I'll probably change it again, if I manage a reasonable splash.

This guy's appearance is based on the black tip reef shark. (Same shark as in that collection of mer-people I drew a few days ago.) According to Wikipedia, "The blacktip is one of only a few sharks that can jump fully out of the water, a behaviour called breaching. They have also been observed surfacing to look around (spy-hopping)."

I thought that was interesting, so...here we are.

The surface of the water had me thinking about how to do it, then I remembered that I used cell-style shading on the shark, so kept with that for the sea...even if the sky has a bit of a gradient.

I like to see jumping from the water. X3 I love the tail you drew there. =3

I find the surface of water to be very hard to do... so the coloring style of this picture was a bit of a cop-out from that hardness, but it worked.

And that tail did come out extremely well... if I recall correctly, I had a reference picture of a real blacktip reef shark at that angle (albeit underwater) that I used to ensure accuracy... But I made it more than a year ago. It might've been a different picture.
