Description
"Any man who can hitch the length and breadth of the galaxy, rough it, slum it, struggle against terrible odds, win through, and still knows where his towel is, is clearly a man to be reckoned with.Hence a phrase that has passed into hitchhiking slang, as in 'Hey, you sass that hoopy Ford Prefect? There's a frood who really knows where his towel is.'"
For Prefect is my favourite character in Adams' novels. And well, babel fishes are legendary ([link] ).
Utmostly happy Towel Day to everybody!

that is a pretty accurate depiction of Ford... I think I imagined him with a bit more crazy, but basically the same...
the babel fish always amazed me. do you live for the rest of your hitchhiking life with the same little bugger in your ear? and how exactly do they reproduce? ah the many unanswered questions...

Yay, thanks a lot! Yep, the crazyness is a bit missing in this pic, if I make another one some day I'll make him more psychotic-looking (bigger, slightly asymmetric eyes maybe?). : P
I think the reason this pic finally turned out to be so Fordish is that I lent his face from Eric Idle (a great comedian from Monty Python, [link] ). I've always had a hunch that Ford would look something like him, and this became explicit in those days I found other H2G2 fans from the Internet (those days were long time ago): I came across some opinions that Idle should certainly have played Ford's role sometimes. And well, I really can't disagree that. Additionally some of Idle's sketch roles remind me of Ford creepingly much. : DD
Ach, the big questions about life, universe, everything and babel fish. Well, the fish will have good time in one's ear as it eat's and poops brainwaves. What a dull life for those poor fishes, some could say. Maybe one should have to change one's fish now and then, I wonder how long life span an average fish has. The reproduction problem made me think what even is babel fishes natural habitat. Uh. Deep sh*t this is, man! : )

Oooooh, the slightly asymmetric eyes might do the trick, yes!
The expression fits Ford almost perfectly XD Though for some reason I imagine him with a constant grin. If not constant then at least 95% of the time.
We could speculate that the fishes "breed" inside a family of hitchhikers, but since most of them don't seem to have family that doesn't work. So maybe it's a "family business to "breed" them. Or maybe they are just a native species in a huge ear shaped planet near a system emitting huge amounts of "garbage" radio waves.
Though they probably live longer than their host. Radio waves don't seem like nasty food which messes up your metabolism. Which means you end up with SOMEONES fish in your ear at some point...

Yee, indeed. Those books introduced Ford to me, and the way I firstly imagined him is the way Ford is always going to look like. 8 D

Yep same here: books first, then the radio series (which allowed our own mental picture of the characters to settle). Then the TV series, and – "oh, I thought Ford was taller, and what's happened to Trillian?"
One thing at least that worked in the film, was that Zooey Deschanel looked like my idea of Trillian...

Oh that TV series Trillian... D 8 But must to take hats of to the looks of Ford (and why not Arthur too) in that show. Gotta admit that the book - TV series - movie flunctuation of Trillian's looks have made it impossible to me to imagine how she should "really" like. Peculiar. At least Deschanel makes a quite symphatic Trillian. : )
The most working (and utmostly awesome) things in the film are the Dolphin song and Stephen Fry. And Arthur's character. Zaphod would be cool too if his heads were correctly. But the end of the film is way too sweet. And Marvin too cute (altough I've got used to his design by time and now I can't imagine him in any other way. Damn you Hollywood!). : D

Yeah, I don't know why they chose to do Zaphod's heads that way. Today's FX are definitely up to the job of having continuous side-by-side heads.
I'm sure I read somewhere that Adams's ideal design for Marvin would be all sleek and streamlined like he's supposed to be really impressive, but he slouches so that bad posture ruins the effect.
I was a bit let down by the Guide graphics in the film: they just looked like present-earth-tech Flash animations. At least in the old TV series they were trying to look futuristic/computery. But yes, the song was good (and I'm glad they kept a quick snippet of Journey of the Sorcerer when the main title came up).
(I think for me Trillian looks like Deschanel, and sounds like Susan Sheridan!
