Description This was created for a private commission. I've left the labels and cities off. I'm pleased with the style - a continuation and development of the style I started with my Island map a while ago. I'm still a little ambivalent about the lines in the sea. I like the perspective longitude lines but the border and swirls I'm havering on. Otherwise I'm very pleased with the result. I hope you enjoy it!

This is a commission piece so it's rights reserved.

This map is currently on display in the Terra Incognita Gallery Show. You can find the print listing here: [link]

Hi there. I love this map and feel it could fit the world I am making for a new game. Are you open for us to use this map as a concept piece for further works? We'd give credit of course.

Awesome perspective, something one doesn't see very often. It's almost like a cross between a map and a picture shot by a high-flying spy plane!

Thanks! It was a really fun map to draw - the first I took on in this style.

Visually stunning with an excellent perspective. Really gives the feeling of the view slowly panning in over the lands as they come to life.

I've wanted a map like this for years. If it also had floating islands, it'd be double-perfect.

Thanks - it's a style I've been enjoying doing too. Lots more to come in a similar style when I'm allowed to show them off.

I would definitely want to try that style. Details are incredible! Impressive.
What was the resolution you were working with?

torstan In reply to FredLipari [2010-09-06 12:17:33 +0000 UTC]

It was done to be printed out as a 15 by 11 inch map at 300dpi - so 4500 by 3300 px.

Thanks!

I love this one...

That style is especially great for game worlds, because you really get a "feel" for the world that is very hard to deliver in 2 dimensions.

Yep, the 3D isometric(ish) style is a great style to really sell a world - even if it's totally useless for accurate distances.

I really enjoyed working in the colours on this one. I've got the workflow for this set up now. A good palette, the right brushes. This map was a joy to make whereas many of the earlier maps in this style were slow going...

Thanks a lot. I was very pleased with how these came out. I worked with a parchment background and built up colour in overlay layers. It leaves it quite light but gives it a nice glow.

Thanks for the compliment.
