Description MWHAHAHA! Cower with fear as I introduce a new fandom into my Gallery: Avatar: The Legend of Korra. Or to be more specific the pairing of Korra and Asami. So... anyone care to wager how many watchers/potential watchers i'm going to lose because of this?

Okay, before I talk about this Artwork, there is some things I need to get out of the way. I've made it no secret that i'm fond of Femslash art and these two are no exception, I've already Faved a fair few already. Some of them I thought were funny, some of them I thought were sweet/adorable, and some I thought were just incredible in terms of concept and presentation. I pretty much feel the same way about Romantic Artwork with these two the same way I do about all Artwork starring femslash pairings: I'm not into the overly explicit, graphic kind you can sometimes stumble across in searchs, i'm more into the sensual, intimate, passionate, romantic genre. And those same rules apply to the Arts I create myself.

In addition, I do have a little confession. I've only actually watched series 1 & 2 of LOK. I know series 3 and 4 were available to watch via online, but to be truthful when it comes to relying on the internet to watch TV shows i'm a sceptic. And since the UK DVD releases look like they're going to take some time, in the end I did a minimal bit of research (I want at least some surprises) so I am aware of some of the basic/significant moments. Besides the obvious that these two are an official/canon couple, Varrick and Jhu-li getting hitched, Bolin gets together with an Air Bender named Opal, Korra getting poisoned and suffering PTS as a result (Zaheer, you sound like an incredible villian, and unlike Joffery from Game of Thrones I don't wish death on you. But still  ), and during Korra's recuperation Asami wrote numerous letters to her. And well, that's kind of what inspired this piece. I started having this picture in my head of a scene that sort of takes the fact that Asami was the only one Korra wrote back to to a new level. Since most of my femslesh work has so far been a bit - how should I put it - saucy, I wanted to try a different approach seeing as this is my first (complete) Korrasami piece that im introducing to my portfolio. But this is just an appatizer compared to what i've got cooking up next   If only I was better at drawing them

As for what I think about Korrasami in general - though i've probably already established i'm taking a postive outlook on it - I admit it was unexpected and surprising, but i'm okay with it.
I don't consider myself a 'die-hard' Korrasmi shipper (I think of myself more as a fan/supporter); I wasn't rooting for them to be together when I originally got into the series, but all in all i'm happy that after all the two of them have endured throughout this story - Asami losing her father, Korra's afformentioned PTS, the on again, off again relationships with Mako (I don't hate the guy at all, but the way he handled the love triangle situation... dick move man ) - that they found a happy ending. Besides, not only do I really like a lot of the FanArt thats been created as a result of this pairing, i've never been one to shy away from what (in my mind) sounds like a promising idea... even if I don't do it justice.

And - I know this is unlikely - but just in case anyone asks me what I think about the original series, The Last Airbender, and how it compares, I haven't watched it (yet). It was one of those things I really wanted to try but schoolwork commitments took over to the point it was too late for me to catch up. However, I have recently purchased the complete DVD box set so that's something i'm hoping to rectify ASAP. I'm already two episodes in at the time I uploaded this Art + wrote this description.

I suppose I can add this to the collection of ToxicSnakeSkull's half-arsed backgropunds, but I'm hoping the theme makes up for it.

Avatar: The Legend of Korra and it's characters belong to Michael Dante DiMartino, Bryan Konietzko, and Nickolodeon.

It's just the fact that a lesbian couple exists in a kids show. It was a step in the right direction before it was fleshed out in The Loud House. Thank you, Nickelodeon.

I hate to be 'that guy', but I feel I need to point out a flaw in that comment (which is still appreciated by the way  ) : technically they (Asami and Korra) are both Bisexual.

Well, holy shit. I almost forgot Korra x Mako was once a thing. Still, nice to see some LGBT in a cartoon.

I think this should have been in the series. At the end of season 2 we saw that Asami was willing to drop EVERYTHING to go with Korra and help her to recover. I think that Korra would have kept the letters Asami wrote in order to help keep the worst of her depression at bay. (It still would have popped up at times, but the letters would have helped.) Just like I think that Asami kept the letter that Korra wrote to her. It took a while (in the series) for them to see how much they loved each other, but I'm glad that they made it in the end.

Well said. I know there's nothing we can do about it now and Bryke are not to blame, but I still wish 'Rememberences' could've been more than what it was. Had it not been reduced to a clip show, it could've given more room for various characters to interact, grow closer, or just give their development more time in the spotlight (random example which i'm just throwing out there; Bolin telling Varrick he had taken Zhu-li for granted perhaps  ). Something like this (Korra and Asami discussing each other's letters) might've been a nice follow up following the pep talk Asami and Tenzin gave Korra on Air Temple Island.

Thankyou for the Fav.

This is so sweet. I would have loved that as well. They truly belong together. Asami and Korra were both raised as only children, they went through something traumatic, with Korra's PTSD and Asami having problems with her company, and changing well in general. Keep up the great work!

Thankyou And kudos to you for noting that they were both only children, sometimes I overlook that

It's totally fine. I'm open to whoever people ship Korra with. . There was a time when I couldn't understand why people shipped Makorra. It's still one of the most popular ships in the fandom next to Korrasami. I understand Mako is an introvert like me and is used to taking care of other people. He didn't know how to deal with Korra being the Avatar and having a stressful job like he did. Just because he isn't expressive about his emotions doesn't mean he's heart. Introverts aren't like extroverts where we always wear our hearts on our sleeves. That's how we're commonly misunderstood. Mako said himself that Korra taught him the importance of putting others before himself, and that sacrifice he made in the finale was proof of that.

I'll always be a Borra shipper at heart though. Yes, Bolin is a bit naive and immature, but he'll put that aside to help the ones he loves. I even posted on my Tumblr post about the reasons I shipped this pairing and how girls, specifically teenage girls, would see that they don't need to always go after the brooding, dark type (sorry Mako.) Bolin isn't conventionally attractive like Mako, but he still is fun at heart and is really funny.

But Asami has always tolerated Korra. Even when the whole love triangle thing was happening, she probably said to herself, "I could play the victim, or I can make something out of this." It takes a lot of inner strength to go through day to day life when your personal life is in shambles. I always like Asami. Even though some people thought she was evil, she seemed likeable to me, and she still does. I even shipped Masami at one point, and I still like that couple next to Borra. What about you? Who did you ship and why?

Well, i'm going into this conversation with a significant disadvantage because, as i've stated in the artwork description, I haven't properly watched Books 3 and 4. Until they're both released in the UK on DVD i've only got a couple of clips, Fan-vids, and journal entries from other Deviants i've seen to back up my opinion. Still, i'll try my best.

I really felt bad for Bolin during the events of Book 1 because it really looked like he and Korra were having a fun time of their date. Let me just say that I absolutely applaud you for what you said about how it's not always about the brooding dark types and that the not conventionally attractive guys can be awesome.  I guess you could call it poetic justice in some way that Bolin finds love (Opal) and Mako is left single at the finale. And rather like Korrasami, i'm glad that Bolin found someone special in the end because it seemed he was getting the short end of the stick when it came to relationships *cough* Eska *cough*.

With Mako, while i'm good with him as a character (I thought of him as a really compitent detective in Book 2, and as you stated he grew as a character as the series progressed), as a Love Interest i'm rather conflicted. I'm probably in a minority but I found it a little hypocritical that he kept encouraging Bolin to 'just get it over with' and end it with Eska, but he couldn't follow his own advice when it came to telling Korra they'd broken up after her memory loss.

Korra and Asami, I just found they're developing relationship to be more interesting. You'd think that having been involved with the same guy these two would be at eachothers throats but instead, they were never in full scale conflict and they got over it. Not only did they become closer friends, they began to become a pretty efficient team (be it in combat, driving lessons, or emotional support). But if i'm going to be honest, the most common complaint I hear about Korrasami I feel is also the most valid (that more foreshadowing would've been welcome). I'm not saying that the moments they used weren't good ("I don't think I could have handled losing you and my father in the same day"), I just would've liked more than what we got (makes me wonder what could've been if it weren't for the budget cuts that resulted in 'Rememberances').

I feel there are two kinds of romances on shows, there are those that gradually evolves from the beginning before it all culminates in the finale (or close to), and then there are those on-again, off-again, 'will they, won't they' kinds that just think of new ways for the couple to break up and make up before the ending. I'm not a big fan of the latter, and although it wasn't played out as long as most sitcoms i've watched in the past do, to me Makorra comes close to that category. It seemed like they spent more time arguing with eachother, and I honestly just got fed up with it. I've recently started catching up with the Original series The Legend of Aang, and while I think both shows are an overall joy to watch, if I had to pick one which I felt was superior, I'd have to go with Legend of Aang. One of the reasons for that is the relationship between Aang and Katara, which I found to be the more engaging Romance. Whenever they pop up on screen together I can't wait to see what happens with them next, whether it's something funny, sweet, or awkward+embarrassing. Wheras with Makorra, it just kept leaning dangerously close to the afformentioned kind of Romance that I just don't like, and I didn't care that much about what happens in this relationship. I mean, I am glad that Mako and Korra ended their relationship on good terms (as did Mako and Asami) but that's me more caring about the characters as friends/individuals rather than as couples. Not that the love triangle with Mako/Asami/Korra didn't have some funny moments... especially this one: . Korra and Asami is my favourite pairing in LOK, but my favourite in the entire Avatar Universe is Aang and Katara.

Wow, that just might be the longest comment i've ever wrote. I hope this wasn't too boring to read

No, this was very interesting. I never got into Makorra either because like you, I couldn't stand the teenage drama. I even made a list of the most misunderstood characters in the series:
1. Mako
2. Korra
3. Asami
4. Opal
5. Azula
6. Kuvira

I'm actually spruced I put Opal on the list. I'll tell you my reasons later. Ttyl.

That's the great thing about FanArt, making what didn't happen a reality.

Thankyou for the
