Description Japanese culture have people sitting on the floor quite a lot and so I thought it would be nice to show you how to easily pose a model in a cross-legged sitting position.

As an aside I've seen some really bad info being circulated around about how to control the position of the legs when the leg IK constraints are on, so this tutorial also serves to show the correct way on how to control these IK chains without turning them off. It's actually really easy. There is no need to fight the IK constraints to get things done, they are there to help so take full advantage of them.

Specifically:

1. Only move the legs using the leg IK_R and leg IK_L  bones.
2. Control the leg angles using the leg_R and leg_L bones.
3. Fine tune the foot using the ankle_R and ankle_L bones.
4. Use the toe IK_R and toe IK_L bones if (and only if) necessary.
5. Switch between local and global orientation modes as necessary to get the desired results; this makes a huge difference in some applications.

You don't ever need to use any of the other bones in the leg in most situations (I never do).

You can get a bit better results if you turn the IK controls off, since most models are not that well weight painted you can espread the tortion between the leg and knee bones and it won't get deformed as much, since the IK controls will only allow rotation in the x axis, al the deformation falls in the leg bone.

Wherein that may be true, part of the intent here is to get people comfortable working with the leg IK chains.

Wouldn't it be easier just to disable IK bones?

Arguably it is, but it is a good practice/idea for people to learn to work with the IK constraints especially for those who intend to develop their own motion data downstream. But it isn't hard to work with the IK constraints on once you have a good basic understanding of what they do and how they work, in fact I would argue they actually makes it easier to pose models.

Thank you!

I've got an idea for an mage I want to create and the model has to be sitting cross-legged like this for it to look how I want ti to.  You just saved me what looks like it might have been to be a lot of frustration and wasted time trying to figure this all out.  (just started using MMD recently)

That's why I do these types of tutorials, saves some people a lot of frustration as MMD isn't entirely intuitive.

Can you do a tutorial on how to pose your model with crossed arms?
Its so hard for me to do it.~
