Description This is an introductory tutorial for those wanting to get into converting their own MMD models. The tutorial covers areas such as:
  • adding accessories
  • UV mapping
  • an introduction to materials
  • adding bones and bone association
  • as well as adding a facial

This tutorial is dedicated to ~GM34 who's question on UV mapping in PMD prompted me to write this tutorial.

ERRATA
I forgot to mention, but to load a texture into the UV panel, all you need to do is drag-and-drop the texture map that you want into that panel.

I use a plugin. There's a tutorial on it in my tutorials gallery.

I have the plugin too, except it saysΒ 
Special UV Mapping from the line of sight direction-(D)
UV Copy-(U)
UV Range Settings from the line of sight direction-(S)

(Using ver. 1.0.0.0)

Texture each eye separately.

Each eye needs to be a separate material and mapped individually.

or you can open gimp and retexture them that way and then place them in the folder with rin itΒ  then it will show up on the pmd

Nope doesn't necessarily work that way. Depends if the eyes are mapped to the same texture or separate textures.

can you do a tutorial on fixing eye bones? Like, I have an edit I made that when you load it, her eye bones are in the wrong position, but they`re normal in PMDe

They were not textured mapped in the first place (except the eyes on some of the models). You can map textures to these models yourself. Both Neru models in my Vocaloids gallery were custom mapped to allow them to use texture maps.

my guess is because they don't have textures

they where just built onto the model (not sure )

though, I think you can change the toons on the model

Also if you were to place a new item into the pmd such as clothing for a base how would you change the texture of the new item?

Depends on the model. Also, many models don't use textures for the eyebrows, just materials.

You do realize that, that question is almost impossible for me to answer, right?

Recolor it ...
Swap it out with the eyebrows from another model ...
Make your own ...

Are all possible options.
