Description
King Ghidorah
INTRO: Once, there were two brothers. Not by blood, but in spirit. One of darkness, the other of light. Together, they defended their world from those that sought its ruination; a nameless horror from outside space that nearly obliterated their form of life, a dark spawn of another world whose filthy smog was too much for what remained of the light brother’s kind, and a hateful demon that shunned the changing air and brought the dark brother’s species to the brink of extinction. Through their struggles, each became the strongest of their kind and grew to respect and even admire one another, eventually forming a deep symbiotic bond. The dark brother ruled the depths of the freshly-condensed sea and the bowls of the still-cooling Earth, while the light brother took to the broiling atmosphere or the surface, each assisting the other in maintaining balance and harmony in their world.
But in time, things changed. A new form of life, smaller, weaker, but highly adaptable, began steadily gaining in diversity and influence. The dark brother paid this little mind, but the light brother grew concerned of this phenomenon’s long-term effect. Eventually, as the smaller lifeforms grew more complicated, their likeness began influencing the elder life’s development. Likewise, the elder life’s essence sometimes seeped into the weaker forms, granting them size and power, populating the world with generations of all new beast-gods. The dark brother managed to adapt to his role as top predator in the new food chain. But the light brother, unable to reconcile the new order of chaotic balance, became more and more sullen and hostile to all those around him, even his old friend. Once again, the brothers fought, but held back out of ingrained mutual respect, eventually leaving each other to their own devices.
Eventually, it became too much for the light brother to tolerate any longer. At a time when there was one great land upon the Earth, he began a devastating crusade to wipe out the weaker lifeforms, and all those beast-gods that arose from their kind. So terrible was his killing spree that long-time enemies of the dark brother’s kind, a race of spiked quadrupeds, joined forces to survive. In his fury, the light brother slaughtered nearly the entirety of both species. The dark brother, having become committed to the new world ecosystem could not forgive his oldest companion for this. After a long battle, the light brother was cast into a great fiery pit, wherein he sank below the Earth’s crust down to its molten core…
Yet, he did not die. For millions of years, as the surface recovered, he suffered. His own resistance had become a curse. And thanks to the influence of the weak, little creatures, he felt the unbearable pain. Unbearable heat. Unbearable pressure. For him, the Earth was now a tomb. But in this living hell, he gained new power. Over millions of years, he learned to harness the planet’s internal radiation, electromagnetism, and even gravitational field, warping his body in the process; wings twisting, skin becoming infused with golden elements, head splitting apart. Eventually, he grew confident enough to reach out with his powers, beyond earth, into the solar system…
Eventually, his influence brought down a massive asteroid upon the Earth. The disturbance of the crust was enough to set him free at long last. The asteroid and subsequent volcanic activity had already devastated the Earth’s life, both chemical and atomic, but there were still areas of relative sanctuary, which were defended by a new race of creatures of the light; super-evolved members of the lepidopteran clade. In his mad, holocaustic ecstasy, the light brother rampaged across the planet, killing most of the divine lepidopterans and any other kaiju that resisted him, including that which would have been the dark brother’s mate. Enraged as he never had been before, the dark brother attempted to tear his ex-friend apart. But the light brother was too powerful, and sent his dark nemesis plummeting into a volcano. But as he was distracted, the lepidopterans mounted their last defense. They moved as one, surrounding the light brother and entombing him with their own bodies as they hurled themselves away from Earth’s orbit, into the void of outer space…
For millions more years, the light brother could only fester as he drifted, sealed by the lepidopterans’ spell. Alone with only his thoughts in the noiseless gulf, he became disciplined, refining his mind into a new source of power. He eventually gained limited movement despite the lepidopterans’ lasting influence. He visited many worlds, and though he could not approach them, he sewed death and destruction by casting his newfound psychic influence into the smaller minds of the native life, honing his skills and experience. Now, after so many long years, he feels the pull of the small blue dot he once called home. Soon now, very soon, he will put an end to the vermin infestation. He will once again be free to revel and kill and enjoy himself to the fullest. His dark nemesis will at last be snuffed out for good. Vengeance will be his. He. Will. Be. King…
STORY: The Earth Gods have been spoken of in obscure, hushed tones since the dawn of humanity. Though mostly forgotten over time, their impressions and legendry forever lingered in hidden places and belief systems. Among these beliefs, there arose a certain sect that spoke of a celestial being, glimpsed in dreams, that was destined to return to Earth one day to bring destruction and rebirth to the world. This belief formed the basis for a cult whose violent disposition forced it into secrecy over the centuries, eventually settling in a small Tibetan plateau than encompassed the small country of Selgina. The cult’s influence spread to the highest levels of government, including the royal family. However, this family’s involvement dwindled as it was reduced to mere figureheads at the turn of the twentieth century…
Also at the turn of the twentieth century were the Earth Gods scientifically recognized as kaiju. Though their existence was kept secret for the latter half of the century by the organization, FATHOM, the creature known as Godzilla would reveal their presence in 2014. Since then, several incidents brought other kaiju to the public’s attention, each resulting in mass destruction. By 2032, much of the world grew continually restless at the possibility of kaiju destruction as the instruments of man proved ineffective against them. That year, the object entered the solar system. Designated Nemesis 00, the object, appearing as an ovoid asteroid with strange biographic surface features, approached Earth before settling into geosynchronous orbit at a distance of approximately 80,000 kilometers. After the fear of it striking Earth subsided, curious transmissions were detected, and an exploratory space shuttle was sent to land on its’ surface. There, the astronauts discovered a strange golden crystal from whence the signal emanated. This crystal was taken back to Earth for further study.
Meanwhile, a highly singular affliction seemed to develop in the current princess of Selgina. Her mental state suffered a catastrophic breakdown wherein she appeared to lose her sense of identity and proper perception of the world. Having been totally ignorant of the dark, ancient cult her country harbored, she began to rave of the most extravagant accusations and most dire of predictions once speech returned to her. For this, she was quietly stripped of her titles and sent to an asylum on behalf of the cult. This event, though, went mostly unnoticed as the world’s eyes and ears were focused on more pressing matters…
The crystal taken from the strange asteroid was found to contain a message coded in the mathematical symmetries of its internal matrix. When translated, it appeared to offer salvation, provided humanity was willing to free it. They could accomplish this by demolishing certain points of structural and energetic integrity across the surface of the asteroid, which prevented it from further approaching the planet. It was eventually agreed (with some prompting by strategically implanted cult members) that the risks were worth it if it meant a possible solution to the kaiju threat, and so a second and much larger mission was launched. There were a few very vocal dissenters, including the Shobijin, and members of FATHOM whom had investigated before the secret myths of a golden terror glimpsed in ancient nightmares. It was one of these members that happened to catch wind of the story of the suddenly-insane princess in the reclusive kingdom of Selgina and the tantalizing snippets of what she raved of…
And so, a FATHOM team traveled to interview the princess if they could. Discreetly as to not draw attention from malign parties. What the being in the guise of a human told was extraordinary indeed… She/it claimed to be the mind of a being native to the ancient past of Mars. Millions of years ago, when the red planet was warmer and wetter, it was home to a rich culture of indigenous lifeforms. But then, calamity fell upon them when a certain object entered their world’s orbit. The will of the beings that made up its’ outer shell managed to drag it off, but not before it was able to do permanent damage to Mars’ already delicate magnetosphere, as well as smashing into both small moons. The surface was decimated by intense radiation and meteor showers, spelling doom for the young complex biosphere. The object’s mental influence was also devastating to the psychically sensitive Martians. They had at the time just begun experimenting in temporal mental projection, which would allow one’s mind to travel in time granted a suitable host. During the collapse of their world and civilization, one individual chanced a desperate gamble to project themselves into the future of the monster’s homeworld, which it was destined to return to, in an attempt to warn the inhabitants of the nature of the incoming disaster.
That individual now told all this within the confines of a straightjacket to the FATHOM team who had come to visit it. Assuming then… “she” was telling the truth, what could possibly be done to stop this monster? The answer… were the kaiju. They were a planet’s best natural defense system. Mars too once had its own kaiju. But, in their fear and arrogance, the Martians had destroyed them all. Destroyed them with a horrible power that humans were dangerously close to themselves. Indeed, FATHOM, during the 60s and 70s, had been funding a project for a device that could theoretically obliterate any lifeform. It was scrapped in the 80s after the extent and significance of kaiju roles were better understood, but the project’s head, Daisuke Serizawa, retained its’ knowledge. The Martian, after much persuasion, agreed to share the elusive missing formula with the Doctor on the condition that it shall only be directed at the space-bound monster, and then destroyed.
Said monster, meanwhile, would not be space-bound much longer. The systematic demolition, despite a plea for cessation from FATHOM, was successful. No longer in check by the latent will of the Mosurans, Nemesis 00 descended to Earth above the Central Atlantic. What it did next shattered all notions of a “savior”. With an incredible skill in electromagnetism, it hijacked dozens of satellites around the Earth and used them to broadcast a range of signals towards all known major kaiju. The monsters went berserk. Kumonga resurfaced in Phoenix, Arizona. Baragon likewise appeared beneath Paris, France. Varan reactivated in a fury and attacked Jerusalem. Gezora shambled into New York City. Ebirah emerged at Brisbane in Queensland, Australia. Titanosaurus attacked Rio de Janeiro with uncharacteristic viciousness. Kamakuras suddenly intercepted the large research vessel, Calico, off the coast of Skull Island. The island itself was thrown into chaos as Gorosaurus and his pack battled their ally, Kong, in blind rage. After years of inactivity, Anguirus burst forth in the heart of Mexico City. Both Rodan and his mate, Radon, erupted from the Campi Flegrei volcano in Italy before destroying Moscow as they flew across Eurasia. And worst of all, Godzilla was sighted off the coast of Hokkaido, Japan…
As the world’s militaries struggled against the monsters, Mothra prepared for battle herself. Receiving energy and a consortium of spores directly from Biollante on Skull Island, she traveled across the world, battling and subduing her fellow kaiju with help from secondary Biollante bodies seeded by the spores. Together, plant and insect goddesses defeated the Gorosaur pack, Kamakuras, Ebirah, Varan, Baragon, Gezora, Kumonga, and Titanosaurus. Anguirus managed to slip into the Pacific, and resurfaced on Skull Island, where he engaged Kong. At the same time, Godzilla was intercepted by the mated pterosaur kaiju in Fukuoka, Japan. It was the twin Mothra Larvae that tried to stop them, but to little effect.
Meanwhile, with the Earth Gods distracted, the perpetrator made its move. The object labeled Nemesis 00 was subjected to nuclear strike. But from atop the mushroom cloud arose the destroyer of worlds, the king of terror; King Ghidorah. He annihilated the amassed armadas and fleets almost without thought, and made a quick detour to Mu. He reveled in triumph as he destroyed hundreds of unhatched eggs, reduced Manda’s mate to a lifeless husk, and tore Komodithrax limb from limb. Immediate urges satisfied, he took off across Eurasia, leveling all cities he came across. Mothra began to pursue him, but was unable to catch up after expending so much energy. He eventually reached Fukuoka, where Godzilla, both Larvae, and both Rodan and his mate were still fighting. Godzilla was quick to take note of his old rival, but both he and the others were savagely brutalized. Mothra finally arrived and managed to grab Ghidorah’s attention. It seemed as though she were trying to communicate with him. Ghidorah paused, but not for long. The divine moth was mutilated and then burned to death in defense of her Larvae. Radon, too, had her heart torn out via gravity beams for her defiance.
At last, the golden terror arrived on Skull Island. With this sanctuary gone his victory would be assured. Kong and Anguirus gave him trouble, but breaking the ape’s arm and paralyzing the armored lizard’s hindlimbs got them out of the way. Biollante could’ve done more had she got her vines around him, but he didn’t give her the chance. A full-force blast of electro-gravitational power was enough to set her whole body ablaze. Now his work could begin. Skull Island’s electromagnetic field was intimately tied to the very core of the planet. With a little manipulation, the Earth’s magnetosphere would be destroyed, killing off most life in one feel swoop, making his job much easier…
But the Earth Gods would not go down so easily. One by one, they arrived on Skull Island, guided by the echoes of Mothra’s song and filled with Biollante’s energy. Godzilla, Kong- his arm mended with Biollante’s vines, Rodan, Anguirus, the Larvae, Titanosaurus, Varan, Baragon, Kamakuras, Kumonga, Zilla, Gezora, Ebirah, Manda, Gorosaurus and his pack, and King Caesar rose to take the gold monster down. The battle was furious, but in time the Earth Gods began to overtake the King of Terror. On the sidelines, waiting for their opportunity, was a human operation. In their arsenal was the subatomic super weapon, crudely dubbed the “Oxygen Destroyer”. They aimed into the chaos at best they could, then fired… only for the weapon to strike Godzilla at the last second.
For a moment, all seemed lost. Until Godzilla, despite the agony he must have been in, embraced his rival in a death grip, ripping into his chest and throats, infecting the three-headed monster with the super weapon’s power. Now panicking, Ghidorah began to rise, taking Godzilla with him. Also tagging along was Rodan, who continued pecking and firing his Uranium Beam at his mate’s killer’s heads, despite his wings being shredded. Kong, who focused on mangling Ghidorah’s wings beyond recognition. And Anguirus, who stubbornly gripped his enemy’s tails in his jaws. What happened next… is hard to say. What could best be hypothesized is that the weapon seemed to cause some sort of runaway chain reaction within Ghidorah’s spacetime-infused body. There was a great flash of light from something that was half explosion, half implosion. And then… all five monsters were gone…
Afterwards, the Martian being faded back to the past to meet its own destiny, its mission fulfilled. The princess, after slight rehabilitation, returned to her kingdom, safe from espionage as much of the Cult of Ghidorah had been wiped out or went into hiding. FATHOM, along with the rest of humanity, set about helping each other rebuild. Skull Island, without its’ king, now sits on the brink of chaos. The Larvae do their best to keep things in order, despite one being gravely injured. Gorosaurus helps too, though he lost two members of his pack, the female now being his only peer. Biollante slowly regenerates atop her mountain. Kamakuras, Baragon, Ebirah, Kumonga, Gezora, and Manda have disappeared somewhere within the depths of the island to recover. Titanosaurus, King Caesar, Varan, and Zilla lost their lives. There is no sign of Godzilla, Kong, Rodan, or Anguirus. Their whereabouts are considered top priority. The search continues to this day…
ABILITIES: Scientifically speaking, Ghidorah is a marvel of biogeological evolution. Physically he is extraordinarily resistant to damage, his body being covered in a flexible suit of metallic scales. These scales are actually quite malleable for a kaiju, though their self-magnetic properties allow them to recover from damage very quickly, surpassing even Godzilla’s regeneration. The dark scales along his ventral surface are specialized to absorb and/or redirect thermal, nuclear, and electrical energies, making his resistant to a wide range of up-close attacks. His own melee arsenal includes all three heads, each armed with razor sharp fangs that strike with snake-like speed, precision, and force. Up close, he will sometimes use one or two necks to constrict enemies while his free heads deliver rapid strikes. Smaller victims may be battered senseless with his horns or crushed beneath his massive talons. These talons can also lash out with powerful kicks strong enough to disembowel softer hides. Both tails terminate in masses of large quills which are easily dislodged towards further targets, while the tails themselves are heavily muscled and capable of devastating supersonic whips.
His most potent abilities, though, lay in his mastery over all four major known forces of the universe. His entire body is essentially a giant electromagnetic conduit. By generating his own magnetosphere, primarily through his specialized wings, he is able to tap into planetary magnetospheres, allowing him to hover or glide effortlessly through the sky. This also grants him access to a huge supply of energy, making him extremely difficult to wear down. Such atmospheric interference results in the formation of lightning storms in his presence, which he makes use of as a moving fort of sorts, where he can hide or draw in extra energy as needed. In combat, he will often punctuate his blows with accumulated static electricity. And though his nuclear radiation is usually recycled internally, he may release an intense pulse of built-up electro-nuclear energy to stun attackers, similar to Godzilla’s own Nuclear Pulse. He maintains a slight forcefield of this energy while airborne which, together with his natural electromagnetic interference, makes him impervious to all conventional weaponry.
By far, however, his most effective attacks are his “Gravity Beams”. Ghidorah’s metabolism is somehow able to warp and refine spacetime itself into a condensed gravitational phenomenon. The simplest, though perhaps not the most accurate, way to describe these phenomena are highly elongated black holes, or “black strings” as they would be. They disintegrate very rapidly, only lasting a few seconds at most, but their effect is undeniable; able to penetrate and destroy almost all known materials. Ghidorah can fire this weapon from all three heads simultaneously at times, and though their use is quick to drain his energy, he can rapidly replenish as long as he can generate and access large electromagnetic energy fields.
Of less definable nature is Ghidorah’s alleged “psychic” abilities. Though an intelligence test is obviously impossible, he seems to be able to project impressions or even sometimes will upon conventional biological minds. This could explain the persistent cult which reveres him on Earth, captured members of which have indeed insisted that he has come to them in dreams since ancient times. limited insight gained from the Martian may also point to a sort of mental influence, able to instill fear, paranoia, aggression, or unconfidence, making coordinated plans against him difficult. This may be supported by the uncountable reports of disarray across the globe during his reign or terror, though such reactions are also conceivable without such alleged influence.
CHARACTER: Ghidorah is a Destroyer. He is utterly relentless in his (ironically) single-minded quest to reclaim the Earth for his own. Though he is willing to plan and strategize when necessary, he appears to highly enjoy the stimulation of destruction, perhaps due to long periods of forced inactivity. This makes him very unpredictable, as he may lash out at any given time at any given thing. When purposefully provoked or challenged, he sometimes displays signs of sadism. His mental state is all the more difficult to discern as each head is capable of independent thought. The central head appears to be dominant and most well-coordinated. The right head lashes out most often, sometimes against the center’s approval. The left head has an odd habit of nipping at itself in apparent disgust, though it is as quick as the others to turn its wrath upon anything that stands in their way…

Aaaaaand that's a wrap. For now, at least... Next week, around the same time, I'll have some important announcements ready, so stay tuned for those.

Wow...what just happened, were did the five monsters go?....I wonder....
Awesome job, did not expect so many monsters to die though, some of whom never got profiles. King Caesar was a real shame, as he is one of my favourites in the franchise, and I feel lots can be done with his character and moveset. But thats just me.
On another note, I fucking love how you actually made Godzilla and Ghidorah rivals, as I seriously doubt Godzilla really thinks of Ghidorah as such in most of the movies, certainly no more than he does Gigan and other recurring foes.
It was also rather interesting to see some of Godzilla's intelligence in this story, as up until now he just kind of struck me as a crazed 'Kaiju Slasher Villain', but now we see that he is a creature not only capable of forming bonds and joining forces against a greater threat, he can even be vindictive.
Well certainly not a rival to humans in intellect, he is pretty smart as far as animals go.
KIng Ghidorah looks quite bitching here, well not my favourite fan redesign, but it's up there (the legs throw me off a bit though, there is just something about them that is awkward to me).

They'll be back, I'm sure...
And I don't think I'm quite done with Caesar just yet. Not saying anything more... And yes, I wanted to give both Ghidorah and Godzilla reasons to really hate each other personally. They are arch rivals, after all. And I can see what you mean with the legs. Might be the angle, oh well. Anyway thanks a lot for the appreciation.

I should have known that only King Ghidorah himself could be the finale!
Sad to see so many of your characters go, but I really like how quickly you established that King Ghidorah wasn’t playing around. Dare I compare him to Thanks (except obviously most of Ghidorah’s victims aren’t coming back...).
Great usage of the Oxygen Destroyer there at the end!
This series has been one of, if not the best, Godzilla fanfics I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading. I look forward to seeing its future, if it has one at all. Well done on creating such an excellent project!

Thank you very much. And I'm glad I was able to have Ghidorah come across as a highly serious threat. And I certainly do plan on continuing this series sometime in the future. Left it on sort of a cliff hanger on purpose, after all...

a very incredible finale!, i love Ghidorah's use of electrical radiation, i can imagine Ghidorah would modify their gravity beams to have levitating gravity pull effects to any living and nonliving thing... before switching the beams back to destructive mode, plus i like to think the color of their beams to be black with golden outlines, anyway i have several questions:
what did the Martians looked like before becoming disembodied minds?, i hope they are not boringly humanoid.
is the dark brother Battra?, EDIT: Nevermind, it's Godzilla.
are the monsters mentioned at the beginning to be Spacegodzilla, Hedorah and Destoroyah?.

Glad you like it. And no, the Martians were definitely not humanoid. And indeed, there are references to Hedorah and Destroyah, but not Spacegodzilla. It's a different sort of monster, one in the public domain...

by the way are Ghidorah's heads inspired by T-rexes and Carnotaurs?.
plus is the space monster Cthulhu since it's in the public domain?

I think most of the inspiration for his faces were those of snakes and dragons, but there's a bit of tyrannosur in there as well.
And yes.

The dark brother is Godzilla, it says that he ruled the depths of the seas and became an Alpha Predator, that was pretty obvious (no offense of course.).

Thanks you. I remember going back and forth between a traditional fin-like wing and a more arm-derived wing as we are going to see in King of Monsters 2019. But I always thought of him as hovering, without needing to flap, so I kinda ended up combining them.
