Had a lot of fun working on this and giving the Pretenders a whirl, never drawn em before bu they were really fun to try my take on em.
And most importantly I want to thank for his infinite patience during the far too long of a wait for it to be completed.

We already have Seaspray playing an important role in a pre-war story, but it's War Within continuity, not G1 cartoon. And we plan to do more with him, possibly pitting him against the felons who spread industrial pollution in the Rust Sea.

Thanks! There's nothing like Transformers to do a truly sci-fi story... and oddly enough, the so-much-criticized Season 3 of G1 cartoon is a bottomless well of excellent hard-core sci-fi ideas.

I think the third season is probably my favorite, for that very reason. Aside from the usual flaws, it had some very serious/mature stories, like "The Burden Hardest to Bear." That was one of the best G1 episodes ever, IMHO.

Probably the first usable explanation for the goofy Pretenders.
Well done on the art. A little wordy but I suppose I don't see how it could have been shortened given the Pretender explanation and subsequent intended consequences.

Yes, I'm afraid it is verbose. And this is the shorter version: I cut all the direct references to "Nightmare Planet", like the fact that the Quints are using Daniel's engrams to access to the human collective subconscious. This is why the monster are a bit childish: they represent human children's fears

Nice idea, but to be honest I'm not sure why these would be significantly scarier than the average 60 foot tall super-aggressive Decepticon. The notion of giant transforming robots disguise, pretending to be innocent until they're ready to attack you is already bad enough. A giant robot that looks like a beast-thing is scary, but not being able to truat a car or a plane flying overhead, or even a walkman would induce far more paranoia in those so inclined.

Yes, but it's exactly the sort of misguided plan the Quintessons would come up with, assuming that mere symbols of things we conquered a long time ago (like darkness and wild animals) would be scarier than the paranoia of not knowing whether you're stepping into your faithful car or a sentient, threatening being.

The Autobots are humans in the pretender line,so the same thing can happen here. The Quintessons idea is to make the transformers more scary and alien by turning them into monsters. What better way to assimilate with another culture then to become like them?
