It's probably the fact that writers do not think of Transformers as self-aware.
Cybertronians have been around for hundreds of thousands of years, and they are still being portrayed as mono-dimensional simpleton focused on a single personality trait. The naive one, the dumb one, the greedy one... is it possible that they never stopped a moment to consider their current status?
