Description
Okay dA, let's see if you can handle this comic.Disclaimer: If you try to come at me with reverse racist crap, trust me, it's a waste of your time. You will be automatically be blocked/deleted and you will not get a reply. Move on.
Also, let me take the time to assert that this is MY space and MY space ONLY as a QPOC. So white people--queer or not--you don't get to dominate conversation here. Take a seat. I know, it's hard, but don't worry. You can do it.
Positive, respectful, not "I don't mean to offend you BUT" comments are welcome.
Okay.
So. Although I have some great allies (white, cis, etc.) I am really tired of seeing the majority of the queer/trans* community, movement, etc. being entirely white. And the majority of publications, resources, groups, etc. cater to white people with no thought about how my experience/culture/ethnicity/race might be different from theirs. And I'm NOT satisfied with being the token QPOC.
It doesn't help that I work in one of the most racially segregated cities ever.
Regardless... look at stats. QTPOC are the ones at risk for the most unemployment, harassment, suicide, murder, etc. And those systemic/institutional causes must be addressed within the queer community at large. You can't just keep telling us we'll deal with it later. Or stop bringing up race. For us, it's not a choice. And for a lot of us (particularly TWOC) it's a matter of life and death.
I carry my share of privilege within the QPOC community. However, these opinions are based on my own personal experiences. I want to see more people like me in safe, open, queer spaces.
Sketcher.

maybe the majority is white because white people make up the majority of the population
hopefully in five years' time you've figured out what math is

From what I can tell, the younger generations are less concerned with Orientation/gender/color/etc. As time goes on, they'll take over all the positions of power and things will move forward, and get better.

Very true, I'm amazed at how unaccepting white queer/trans people can behave towards POC. I do my best to be as accepting as any human could ever be, we're all in this together after all~

That is interesting how QPOC have more risks for such things yet aren't acknowledged as much as they should be. I would've thought that a community like this would be more helpful and accepting.
I dislike not being a POC sometimes. I have it easier yes, but it makes it difficult to understand just how hard things are. And not even like the cis-trans relationship where you may not understand but still use their correct name/pronouns. Doesn't make sense to me why race/ethnicity has to cause so many problems... and I feel horrible that I grew up ignorant to all of this because of my own skin color.

/hugs/ you'd think that one minority wouldn't actively oppress another, but it happens. therefore the battle is 2x as hard. but consciousness raising & actively using your privilege are two wonderful things.
