This is my small contribution to Pride Month.

I feel like Pride (at least here) is very LGB centered. This is our month too!

And let us never forget the fierce trans* women of color that led the movement! And all other gender nonconforming individuals there.

Sylvia Rivera is my hero.

Sketcher wasn't working properly tonight so I had to do this all on Photoshop. That is why my lines aren't as clean and such. Oh well. I like it.

Go out and celebrate the past, present, and future of our community.

Okay dA. Here we go.

There was a clear underground (and sometimes not so underground) "gay" movement prior to Stonewall. And not all of it was white.

However. Stonewall is seen as the turning point for gay liberation. It's seen by many as the catalyst to a larger, more public, more vigorous movement.

BUT. Let me ASSURE YOU that it was not just white gay men and lesbians there at Stonewall.

Saying that trans* women were NOT there contribute to the continued erasure of trans* women in queer spaces and I WILL NOT HAVE THERE HERE.

I am NOT a trans* woman and I cannot speak from their perspective. BUT I am a trans* man and I will NOT be told that trans* people did not exist at Stonewall. We did.

And you can say that "drag queens" were there, yes, okay. Some individuals identified as drag queens. Some of those "drag queens" were in fact trans* women. LIKE SYLVIA.

The historical account most widely recognized is that trans* women (or drag queens) and butch lesbians started the riots and contributed the most to bashing back against police abuse. Just because they were not all gay men doesn't mean you get to say trans* women were not there. Also, I said "all other gender nonconforming individuals" and that can mean anyone.

This is me paying HONOR and RESPECT to the trans* women who were there on that night and vastly contributed to the Pride Month we see today.

You know how they say the victors get to write history? Well gay men, y'all aint been so fair to the rest of us. More and more we find out the contributions trans* people make and have made--it's just been a history that has been widely ignored and erased.

So before you come here and comment on how I'm wrong and you dare to give me a lecture on gay rights, let me save you some time: IDGAF. I have done my reading and I will not accept the largely transphobic history of cis gay men.

If you don't come here to say a comment from respect, leave. You're wasting your time saying anything otherwise.
